Fixed single beds are a popular choice in motorhomes, providing good length and comfort for couples or friends who are touring together. If you’re on the hunt for one, you’ll want to choose the best motorhome with fixed single beds for the job – and that’s where our round up comes in.

There are two fixed single bed motorhome layouts. The first one sees a central washroom, an arrangement that is the second most popular fixed bed setup after the island bed (and see our best motorhome with an island bed guide to find out more about this look).

In the central washroom setup, the single beds are normally high, which ensures there’s enough space for a garage. There is also generally (but not always) the option of creating a double, typically with an infill cushion and a pull-out central platform. Something to consider with these beds is that due to their height, you don’t always get much headroom.

The other fixed single bed arrangement is a rarer setup which will see an end washroom at the rear of the ‘van. This means you get a more spacious feeling in the central area of the motorhome, but you don’t get a garage, and anyone sleeping at the front of the van could disturb you if they need the toilet during the night.

Fixed single beds in van conversions are often different, as they can generally be folded away to make room for storage beneath. They don’t provide much headroom, with the door opening behind you.

In this round up, we’re taking a look at the best motorhomes with fixed single beds, featuring models from the 2023 season, as well as the past couple of years. This includes ‘vans from Swift, Adria, Rapido and more – you can find out about the makes mentioned in our guide to the best motorhome brands.

The best motorhome with fixed single beds – our top picks:

The Adria Coral Axess 600 SL
The Adria Coral Axess 600 SL

Adria Coral Axess 600 SL

  • Year: 2020
  • Berth: 2/3
  • MTPLM: 3500kg
  • MiRO: 2923kg
  • Payload: 577kg
  • Shipping length: 6.99m
  • Width: 2.30m

Reason to buy:

  • Great build quality, comfortable beds, good garage

Reason to avoid:

  • Kitchen isn’t the biggest, no separate shower cubicle

There’s plenty to like about this Adria model, a motorhome that we felt had a ‘superb’ build quality when we reviewed it in 2020.

Coming in at less than 7m, you’ll find a spacious interior which offers a surprising amount of room.

This is particularly apparent in the bedroom area – the fixed single beds in this motorhome are very comfortable, and there’s a third, narrow, single bed between the two – this would be well suited for a smaller child, although we think this is probably a ‘van suited to couples (see our best motorhomes for couples guide if you’d like more ideas here).

At 2.03m in length, this motorhome’s fixed single beds are generously sized, with heads you can raise so you can read in bed – the reading lights will come in handy here too.

We’d say the kitchen isn’t the largest we’ve ever seen, but it’s still well-equipped, with a three-gas-burner hob, a Thetford oven and grill, good locker space and a large 142-litre fridge.

In the centre of the ‘van, you’ll find the washroom – it’s not the most spacious, yet it does what you’d want a washroom to do. One thing we would highlight is the shower cubicle – the floor is shared by the toilet, meaning you could get wet feet if the shower hasn’t completely drained away.

At the rear of the ‘van is a very generous garage, which can hold as much as 150kg, and is also heated and lit.

The Swift Voyager 584
The Swift Voyager 584

Swift Voyager 584

  • Year: 2023
  • Price: £67,495
  • Berths: 4
  • MTPLM: 3500kg
  • MiRO: 3076kg
  • Payload: 424kg
  • Length: 7.85m
  • Width: 2.37m

Reason to buy:

  • Comfortable lounge, generous garage

Reason to avoid:

  • Garage can’t be accessed internally

Our winner of the best low-profile motorhome at the Practical Motorhome Awards 2023 deserves its place in our round up of the standout fixed single bed motorhomes.

We thought the lounge was pleasant, with swivelling cab seats and also a travel seat found beneath each side settee, while a pedestal table can be folded in half, making it easy to access the cab from the rear.

The lack of worktop extension poses a slight issue in the kitchen – if both mains sockets are in use, you could be pushed for space, in which case you’d probably be relying on the table. You also only get a combined oven and grill, but a dual-fuel four-burner hob and a large stainless steel sink are welcome additions.

The washroom is a good area, although there’s a large step up to get in. The well ventilated area comes with a large mirror and a sizeable basin, but we noted the shower only has a single drain hole.

The two fixed single beds at the rear of the motorhome are both a nice size, with plenty of room to sit up in bed, thanks to the absence of overhead lockers. There’s no option to make the singles into a double though.

The additional two berths are made up by flicking a switch to lower the pedestal table in the lounge and rearranging the cushions, meaning no infill is required.

One thing we will highlight is there’s no way to access the garage internally. It’s a big space though – there’s room for bikes, for instance – and we like the inclusion of a 12V socket too.

The Rapido C55
The Rapido C55

Rapido C55

  • Year: 2023
  • Berth: 3
  • MTPLM: 3500kg
  • Length: 6.72m
  • Width: 2.17m

Reason to buy:

  • Ideal for people who eat out and cycle on tour

Reason to avoid:

  • Kitchen could be better

If you’re looking for a motorhome with fixed single beds and are touring as a couple, the Rapido C55 is well worth considering.

We found the lounge comfortable; in fact, we think it offers more comfort than most. There’s easily space for six to sit at the dining table once the fold-down stool is deployed, while there are two useful LEDs near the cab seats.

We reckon the half-height fridge provides enough room for three, while a two-burner hob is provided. The sink is on the small side, but we think there’s ample workspace, and like the inclusion of an extractor fan too.

You can create a shower in the washroom by swinging over a partition – this has been achieved by creating a slightly skewed shape for the tray. What this does mean is that the you don’t get the most headroom we’ve ever seen, but we found the shower itself is easy to adjust.

After stepping up, you’ll enter the rear bedroom; there’s a wooden partition here, which is unusual to see in a ‘van of this size. The fixed single beds are both good sizes, with one 1.99m long and the other 1.85m long.

Headroom isn’t excellent here, but a cushioned panel can be used to create a huge transverse double.

The third bed is made up with dinette seats and a panel that otherwise resides in the garage. This garage offers a height of 1.20m, meaning you could comfortably store a bike in here, and it’s easy to load into too (check out our guide on how to load a motorhome for more packing know how).

The Malibu Van 640 LE RB GT Skyview
The Malibu Van 640 LE RB GT Skyview

Malibu Van 640 LE RB GT Skyview

  • Year: 2021
  • Berth: 4
  • MTPLM: 3500kg
  • Payload: 655kg
  • Length: 6.36m
  • Width: 2.05m

Reason to buy:

  • Big beds, clever washroom design

Reason to avoid:

  • No oven, expensive with all of the extras

If you want a van conversion that comes with fixed single beds, this Malibu ‘van could be the option for you.

This is a model that comes with plenty of optional extras. In standard spec, it’s £52,750 OTR, yet there are options which can increase the price of the vehicle – take the ‘van we reviewed, which had extras that saw the price rise to £80,855.

The rear houses two fixed single beds; there is no option to make them into a double, a decision influenced by the fact that it would make access to the storage below harder.

Despite this, they’re both very spacious beds, coming in at over 90cm wide and over 2m long.

Headboards in the rear windows give you something to rest your head against without any worries of damaging the concertina blinds – a welcome addition, yet one that taller people could end up wishing were higher.

The fixed single beds in the Malibu Van 640 LE RB GT Skyview

It’s very well lit; the £3530 raising-roof add on only takes up the front two-thirds of the ‘van, so there’s room for a Heki.

There are plenty of little nooks too, including a small shelf under the lockers on both sides and two triangular shelves.

The most interesting thing about this model is the ‘First Class – Two Rooms’ layout; this means the washroom door can be folded out, while the wall panel to the left can be folded back, giving you a washroom / dressing room stretching across the van and creating a small changing space, complete with a hanging wardrobe.

A large shower can also be created, meaning one could use the shower while another uses the dressing room.

Something we will highlight is that the kitchen has no oven, grill or microwave – instead, you have to make do with a two-burner gas hob. A 90-litre compressor fridge that can be easily accessed from outside is a nice touch though.

The Bürstner Elegance 910G

  • Year: 2021
  • Berth: 4
  • MTPLM: 5500kg
  • MiRO: 4273kg
  • Payload: 1227kg
  • Length: 8.91m
  • Width: 2.32m

Reason to buy:

  • Ideal for off-gridding, luxurious interior

Reason to avoid:

  • Kitchen could be better

This stylish 2021 ‘van is an ideal candidate to consider if you want to take a motorhome off grid.

When it came out, it was given a full upgrade, coming with a 36cm deep double floor and it was also the first to come with the Thetford’s INDUS toilet system, something which makes emptying the loo a much simpler affair.

Plenty of daylight floods into the lounge area, thanks to a medium Heki and two huge side windows. Then, in the evening, you can rely on LEDs.

Something we did note is that the kitchen only provides a three-burner gas hob and a combined oven and grill. There’s also an oddly shaped sink, which you’re likely to struggle to find a suitable washing up bowl for.

Yet there’s good work surface, and with it a two-way opening Dometic fridge – however, there’s no microwave.

The washroom can only be described as exquisite. On the nearside sits a shower that was expanded for 2021. It’s nicely lit, and while there’s only one drain, the tray dips down.

Then, at the rear are those comfortable fixed single beds. You climb up three steps to access them, and in this area, we really like the addition of the little chests near each headboard where the lights can be controlled.

The Burstner Elegance 910G
The Bürstner Elegance 910G

A huge rear garage provides plenty of storage, and there’s external-access lockers throughout the ‘van too, plus nine cubbyholes.

If you want a motorhome with fixed single beds that offers some modern style, we think this is well worth considering.

The Mobilvetta Kea P65
The Mobilvetta Kea P65

Mobilvetta Kea P65

  • Year: 2020
  • Berth: 4
  • MTPLM: 3500kg
  • Payload: 270kg
  • Shipping length: 7.38m
  • Width: 2.35m

Reason to buy:

  • Excellent storage, good kit levels

Reason to avoid:

  • Not much payload

We really liked the fact that this Kea P65 includes a habitation door on the right – it’s a handy addition for UK drivers.

The double floor means you have to step up to get to the lounge, but a grab handle helps. It’s a stylish area we think, with the L-shaped lounge having a white, glossy interior.

LEDs light up the area at night, while Mobilvetta’s signature blue ambient lighting behind the lockers adds to the vibe. One thing we did notice is the presence of only one mains socket in the lounge.

An impressive kitchen includes an induction hob and two gas burners, along with an extractor fan and a large sink. Storage is good too, although we’d highlight that the worktop isn’t the largest, due to a trap door that houses the bin.

On the offside sits a shower cubicle, with a clothes drying rail and roof vent, while the nearside washroom provides a circular basin and a toilet, meaning you’d possibly need to remove the cassette from inside an awning.

Mobilvetta Kea P65

A folding door and tambour door can be used to partition off the rear bedroom, where you’ll find the motorhome’s fixed single beds. We found them high and headroom wasn’t great, but they’re easy to get into and we thought they were very comfortable, with headboards providing plenty of padding.

A cushioned area for a child’s bed sits between the beds, but by taking this out, you get a flat spot that would be a great place for housing a tray if you’re enjoying some breakfast in bed.

The lounge’s drop-down bed can be lowered with ease, although we found it led to the partial obstruction of the habitation door.

We like the rear garage storage that is provided, and the inclusion of six lockers in the rear bedroom is handy – the payload of only 270kg is a bit of a bind, though.

The VW Grand California
The VW Grand California

VW Grand California

  • Year: 2020
  • Berth: 4
  • MTPLM: 3880kg
  • Payload: 421kg
  • Shipping length: 6.84m
  • Width: 2.04m

Reason to buy:

  • Good washroom, comfortable bed

Reason to avoid:

  • Habitation door on the offside

The VW Grand California comes in two versions – the 600, with a transverse bed, and the 680, which is the model we’re including in our best motorhome with fixed single beds guide.

Inside the 680, you get a comfortable area to relax in, with a dinette table that can be reached from the driver’s side. When not in use, you store it with a strap under the bed’s mattress on the nearside.

Two outdoor chairs and a table go into the rear barn doors. While they’re more designed for sitting, as opposed to lounging, they’re still a useful feature.

The kitchen comes without an oven, and the extension is rather small – in fact, the 680 provides enough space anyway we think, thanks to the fixed workspace.

A 70-litre drawer fridge sits at the end of the peninsula, and we found it easy to reach when sitting outside.

The presence of a shelf on the outside edge of the kitchen even comes with a TV connection and two USB sockets, as well as a mains socket – ideal if you want to watch some TV in the great outdoors.

The fixed single beds in the VW Grand California

The washroom opposite the kitchen has a tap that doubles up as a shower – one thing we like here is the mirror on both sides of the cupboard door over the basin.

Then there’s the fixed single beds; these come on sprung plastic and unlike some of the options in our guide, can be more or less pushed together to create a comfortable double, despite the 10cm difference in length.

Six windows and a rooflight keep the area nicely lit and ventilated, as does an air conditioner that will help you keep cool on tour during the summer months.

If you fold up the beds, you will have access to plenty of storage below – this includes room for storing bicycles, but we’ll point out there’s no holds for bungee cords.

The Hymer B-Class MC T 600

Hymer B-Class MC T 600

  • Year: 2020
  • Berth: 4
  • MTPLM: 3500kg
  • Payload: 555kg
  • Shipping length: 7.19m
  • Width: 2.19m

Reason to buy:

  • Great build quality, bench toilet

Reason to avoid:

  • Seated headroom space in bedroom is limited

The lounge in this Hymer would never be called the largest, yet we still think it works well – in here, you’ll find a settee, an inward-facing single seat and you can also swivel the cab seats in to face the adjustable, fixed pedestal-leg table.

We’re big fans of the clever washroom; a bench toilet is a good design choice, as it’s easier to clean around, while the shower cubicle, despite an odd shape, is simply using the most of the available space.

Then there are the single beds, which come with superior cold-foam mattresses on loose membranes. These are helpful to have, providing support and ventilation. The room provides more though, with storage on offer at the foot of each bed and a plastic tray between the beds. One thing worth noting – you’ll struggle to sit upright.
