If you’re looking to buy a motorhome, it pays to do your research and seek out the best motorhome manufacturers. A new motorhome is a significant purchase. Fortunately, there is plenty of choice and many excellent motorhome brands out there, so have a look online, go to a show see the products and meet the motorhome manufacturers in person. Here’s our round up of the some of the best motorhome manufacturers. Whether you’re looking for an A-class Hymer motorhome, a continental Chausson or a smart Adria, we’ve got the contacts you need to get in touch with the best motorhome brands.
If you find the sheer number of motorhomes out there bewildering, fortunately help is at hand. There are UK shows you can visit where you can see a wide variety of motorhome from many of the manufacturers covered here, and all in one place. The two biggest happen at Birmingham’s NEC, with the larger show in October when the season’s new models are launched, and a smaller one earlier in the year. This will be occurring between 22nd-27th February in 2022.
Two shows at Glasgow’s SECC normally take place around the same time for those north of the border. There is also a smaller show at EventCity in Manchester in January.
We also run the Owner Satisfaction Awards, held in conjunction with the Camping and Caravanning Club. This provides us with a great insight into the best motorhome manufacturers out there, as our readers – and members of the Camping and Caravanning Club – vote to give us an accurate idea of the market, as well as highlighting the best motorhome brands for giving customers the finest buying experience.
For the recent Owner Satisfaction Awards 2022, we had over 2,600 completed surveys – an increase from the 2,307 we received last time – presenting us with the most insightful results to date.
We also run the Practical Motorhome Awards. Here, our expert panel of judges use our collective decades of industry experience to pick out the standout vans from the best motorhome brands, across a wide range of categories. As well as choosing a winner in each category, we also revealed the contenders that appeared on the shortlist.
20 best motorhome manufacturers and brands
Drury Drive, Sudbury, Suffolk CO10 1WH 01787 888980
One of Europe’s largest motorhome manufacturers, this Slovenian company produces everything from space-conscious van conversions to top-of-the-range A-classes. The brand is now part of the Trigano Group.
Adria was the winner of the best manufacturer: new motorhomes category at our recent Owner Satisfaction Awards, with the impressive score of 90.9% showing how popular the brand is with customers.
As a result, it wasn’t surprising to see the Slovenian brand do well at the Practical Motorhome Awards 2022, with the Adria Matrix Supreme 670 SL winning the best motorhome under £80,000 and best motorhome for families categories. The quality interior on offer in the new-look model combined with features such as the expanded 115-litre water tank to really impress our judging panel.
The manufacturer also found itself shortlisted seven times across six other categories.
Orchard Works, Willersey, nr Broadway, Worcestershire 01386 853338
A long-standing and well regarded British brand that mainly focuses on van conversions but also makes Peugeot- and Mercedes-based low profiles. Sister company to Marquis Leisure, now also owned by Trigano.
The Owner Satisfaction Awards saw Auto-Sleepers win a gold award for the best manufacturer: pre-owned motorhome category, scoring 86.9%. The British brand also won silver awards in the best volume manufacturer overall and best manufacturer: new motorhome categories, with scores of 84.7% and 82.4% respectively.
The brand had a good performance at the Practical Motorhome Awards too, with our judging panel awarding the best motorhome under 7m category to the Auto-Sleeper Broadway EL and the best motorhome for couples to the Auto-Sleepers Nuevo EK.
The Auto-Sleeper Broadway EL was also shortlisted for three further categories, with the comfort on offer throughout the motorhome combining with a highly impressive central washroom to really impress our judges.

A popular British brand producing van conversions, low profiles and overcabs under the Auto-Trail and Tribute names. Ultimately owned by Trigano. Look out for the Auto-Trail umbrella included in many models!
Auto-Trail seized a gold award for the best manufacturer: pre-owned motorhomes, with voters giving the brand a score of 86.3%. The brand also secured a silver award in the best manufacturer: new motorhome category and best volume manufacturer overall, scoring 82.7% and 84.5% respectively.
This British manufacturer also impressed at the Practical Motorhome Awards 2022, receiving the best 2 berth motorhome category thanks to the Auto-Trail F68; we especially liked the overhead panoramic skylight.
We also deemed the Auto-Trail Grand Frontier GF88 to be the best 4 berth motorhome, with the comfortable lounge combining with features such as a well-sized dropdown bed to ensure top spot.
Both of the above models were also shortlisted twice more during the Awards.

One of Britain’s biggest caravan manufacturers, Bailey only started producing motorhomes ten years ago, but already has three ranges of low profile vans.
Bailey has clearly won a strong following in this time, securing a gold award in the best manufacturer: pre-owned motorhome category, scoring 88.0%.
Silver awards went to the brand as well, following scores of 80.7% and 83.2% in the best manufacturer: new motorhomes and best volume manufacturer overall categories respectively.
The brand also impressed at our Practical Motorhome Awards 2022. The judging panel awarded the best 6 berth motorhome category to the Bailey Autograph 81-6, with a Thetford ‘K-Series’ combined oven, grill and hob just one of the features to impress us.
The Bailey Adamo 69-4 is another standout model, making it onto our shortlist twice.
Willersey, nr Broadway, Worcestershire 0800 026 7777
This Spanish brand has been reintroduced to the UK exclusively by fellow Trigano subsidiary Marquis Leisure. It currently comprises three ranges – the Fiat-based Mileo and Primero ranges, and the Ford-based Tessoro.
The manufacturer won the best van conversion over £50,000 category at the Practical Motorhome Awards through the Benimar Benivan, with the improvements made over the past season really catching our attention.
The Spanish manufacturer was also shortlisted for two further categories, through the Benimar Primero 313 and Benimar Tessoro 483.

A longstanding German brand, now part of the Erwin Hymer Group, Bürstner produces the full range of van conversions, low-profiles. A-classes and huge overcabs.
A gold award winner in the best manufacturer: new motorhomes category at the Owner Satisfaction Awards, the brand was also the recipient of the best motorhome for innovation at the Practical Motorhome Awards 2022, thanks to the Bürstner Lyseo Gallery. Our panel have earmarked this motorhome as a potential game changer in the industry, as it’s like a ‘halfway house between a low-profile and overcab’.
The Bürstner Elegance 910G was also shortlisted four times.

Upmarket Carthago is one of the few German motorhome brands that is still privately owned. It produces well-built low-profiles and A-classes, while its more budget sister brand Malibu also does van conversions.
The motorhome manufacturer was awarded the best A-class motorhome at the Practical Motorhome Awards 2022, through the Carthago chic c-line I 4.9 LE/L superior. We were impressed by how much the A-class manages to fit in, with features including a spacious lounge and neat corner kitchen. The model was also shortlisted in two other categories.

French brand Chausson celebrates its 40th anniversary this season. It is one of the best selling continental brands in the UK, with a range of highly innovative low-profiles. Part of the Trigano Group.
A silver award winner for the best manufacturer: new motorhomes category with a score of 79.7% at the Owner Satisfaction Awards, Chausson also took home the competitive best motorhome under 6m category at our Practical Motorhome Awards 2022. A space-saving swivel partition in the washroom was just one of the features our judging panel noted, in a model that was also shortlisted in a further category.
The Chausson Exclusive Line 660 also made it onto three shortlists, with our panel really liking the front lounge on offer.

Dethleffs is one of the Erwin Hymer Group’s more upmarket brands, producing everything from compact low-profiles to huge overcabs with a strong focus on innovation.
The brand was also the winner of the best motorhome for full-time living, thanks to the Dethleffs Globetrotter XLi-7850-2 DBM. The statement van provides some real luxury, with touches – for instance, a sideboard unit that can fit a 32-inch TV – creating a home from home vibe, that also saw it shortlisted in two additional categories.
The Dethleffs Globebus T1 was also shortlisted twice.
ERWIN HYMER UK
Delves Lane, Consett, County Durham DH8 7PE 0371 964 2113
Erwin Hymer bought Elddis, one of the UK’s biggest brands, two years ago – about the same time that Elddis itself had resurrected the Compass brand in motorhomes. Since then it has moved into highly innovative van conversions too.
The Elddis Autoquest 150 took the best motorhome under £60,000 in the Practical Motorhome Awards 2022, with the spacious front lounge – which converts into a double bed – just one of the aspects that our judging panel picked out. This motorhome was also shortlisted twice more, while the brand had two further models represented in other categories.

Owned by Pilote, Frankia produces uber-luxurious A-classes and low-profiles including the popular Plus models, with beds that drop down over the cab. You can choose between Fiat- and Mercedes-based models.
The best motorhome over £80,000 category at the Practical Motorhome Awards 2022 went to the Frankia l8400 Plus Platin. The brand is well-known for its quality, and that’s certainly provided in this motorhome, with a huge washroom combining with features such as the comfortable rear lounge to impress us.

German brand Hobby, the largest caravan manufacturer in Europe, also produces every type of motorhome except for A-classes. It has a particular focus on family vans.
Holzstrasse 19, D-88339 Bad Waldsee, Germany
The flagship brand of the Erwin Hymer Group, Hymer produces luxurious A-classes and low-profiles with a distinctive exterior profile, as well as Fiat Ducato van conversions. It has just started building its own chassis too.
Hymer had a dominating performance at our recent Owner Satisfaction Awards, securing the best volume manufacturer overall category with a score of 86.6%, as well as topping the best manufacturer: pre-owned motorhomes with 90.1%.
The brand was also represented at the Practical Motorhome Awards, where the Hymer T Class S 585 was a shortlisted model in one of the categories.
Helmut-Knaus-Strasse 1, D-94118, Jandelsbrunn, Germany
Part of the huge Knaus Tabbert Group, Knaus motorhomes have a relatively low profile in the UK but are expanding rapidly.
For the 2022 season, the brand introduced its FoldXpand rear panel to more of its models. This has been designed to increase the interior length of the ‘van, without increasing its overall length.
The brand had two models shortlisted at the Practical Motorhome Awards 2022.

A motorhome brand named after the dog that went into space? Why not? Tuscan brand Laika, part of the Erwin Hymer Group, produces A-classes and low-profiles with typical Italian flair and great attention to detail.
Both the Laika Kosmo Compact 5 and the Laika Kreos L5009 featured on our shortlist at the Practical Motorhome Awards.

Like Spanish brand Benimar, Italian brand Mobilvetta has been reintroduced into the UK exclusively by fellow Trigano subsidiary Marquis Leisure. Its K Yacht Tekno Line range of A-classes has a distinctly nautical feel, with the Mobilvetta Tekno Line K Yacht 86 shortlisted twice at the Practical Motorhome Awards. The Tekno Line Kea P86 also joined it in one of the categories.

French brand Pilote produces A-classes and low-profiles with a wide range of spec levels. It also produces the Le Voyageur range of top-class liner motorhomes.
Pilote had three ‘vans represented at the Practical Motorhome Awards as well.

Rapido produces the full range of motorhomes under its own name, as well as more budget priced Itineo A-classes and low-profiles, and highly innovative camper vans which in the UK are branded Dreamer.
To mark the brand’s 60th anniversary, Rapido brought out six models for the 2022 season that came with an inbuilt vacuum cleaner.
The brand was represented at the Practical Motorhome Awards, with four models appearing.

Distributed in the UK by fellow Trigano Group subsidiary Auto-Trail, Roller-Team is an Italian motorhome manufacturer with a strong focus on family vans. It is also the only A-class producer to include UK-oriented cab doors.

Britain’s largest leisure vehicle manufacturer has been producing motorhomes since 1985. Perhaps best known for its family-oriented Kon-tiki range, it is an almost entirely Fiat-based manufacturer.
Towards the end of 2021, the British brand announced it was releasing its first campervan, the Swift Monza.
At the Practical Motorhome Awards 2022, the brand was the winner of the best low-profile motorhome, through the Swift Select Compact C500. The model is a new layout, and we’re convinced it’s one that will prove very popular with customers. One more motorhome was shortlisted too – this was the Swift Kon-tiki 784.
Swift also won silver awards in every category at the Owner Satisfaction Awards.
The motorhome manufacturer recently announced it would not be appearing at February’s NEC show this year.
