Motorhome owners have been warned to watch out for thieves this winter, following the recovery of a Bailey Autograph.
The warning was issued by stolen vehicle recovery expert Tracker at a time when many of us will be thinking about winterising a motorhome. The ‘van, which is worth around £40,000, was stolen in Devon from outside the owner’s home. After it was quickly reported to the Devon and Cornwall Police, it was located 200 miles away in Birmingham by West Midlands Police and Tracker, around 22 hours later.
The theft highlighted the importance of good motorhome security, as the thieves managed to make off with the ‘van even though it had been securely locked, with the key kept in the house.
Clive Wain, Head of Police Liaison at Tracker comments, “Sadly, leisure vehicles are in demand, whether they are young and old. We recover leisure vehicles ranging from £16,000 to £70,000 so we know criminals are targeting both ends of the market. The fact that motorhome was stolen, despite the owner taking sensible security measures, confirms that if a thief wants to steal a vehicle, they will find a way to do it. Having a tracking device fitted will not only increase the chances of your vehicle being quickly located and returned in the event of a theft, but it also demonstrates to an insurer that you are taking the correct steps to protect your leisure vehicle, which can have a positive impact on the cost of your premium.”
