An awning can be a brilliant way to enhance your space, especially if you’re travelling in a campervan. You get extra room to get together at meal times, and even put a bed or two down as well. If you’ve been thinking of buying one for a while, the Black Friday sales provide a great chance to buy a motorhome awning at a brilliant price.

Awnings have moved on hugely in the last few years too. They’re no longer those huge bulky things made of bulky fabrics and rusty poles. Nowadays they are lighter weight, often inflatable, and in clever designs too.

With a driveaway awning, you can even keep hold of your pitch on the campsite, should you intend to return to the same place after a long day’s touring.

I’ve taken a look and have found some brilliant Black Friday driveaway awning deals, featuring big brands such as Kampa, Olpro and more.

Vango Henley Tailgate Airhub Awning

Vango Henley Tailgate Airhub Awning £700 now £445 (save 36%)

If you have the right kind of campervan (one with a tailgate door), and possibly even if you don’t, tailgate awnings make a great addition because they have a multitude of uses. You can put your Porta Potti in one – plus, if your campervan has an external shower attachment, it’s usually at the back, so you can turn this area into a proper washroom.

Alternatively, it can be used as an additional eating area. This works very well for campervans with an end kitchen, as the cook can pass everything through.

This model is particularly useful as it doesn’t require the door to be open, so you drive off and leave it behind as a secure storage tent.

I also like its versatility – should you find there isn’t enough space for the awning behind your campervan, you can use it as a conventional side awning instead.

The awning is made with Vango’s exclusive waterproof Sentinel Active Fabric, with taped seams to protect zips. The material also offers UV30+ protection. You get two access doors too, and plenty of windows to bring the light in (although they have privacy curtains too).

  • Awning type: Inflatable
  • Material: Weathershield 150D with UV protection
  • Weight: 12.8kg
  • Pack size: 75 x 33 x 33cm

Berghaus Drive-Airway 300 awning

Berghaus Drive-Airway 300 awning £1,400 now £695 (save 50%)

This awning with the prestigious Berghaus name is available for less than half price this Black Friday. At 3.9m wide and 3m deep, it’s small enough to fit on all Camping and Caravanning Club sites.

The material it is made from is described as having a hydrostatic head of 6000mm, meaning it’s right at the top end of waterproofing. The inflatable awning also comes with three windows, a fly mesh door, a sewn in ground sheet, and low level vents to allow air to circulate.

That’s not all. You also get a blackout bedroom that is large enough for two, so you can invite guests or the kids can have a sense of independence. And it has dual cable access and plenty of lantern points, if you want to make your awning interior look really sophisticated.

  • Awning type: inflatable
  • Attachment height: 180-210cm, with optional extension sleeve to 240cm
  • Material: Flame retardant, with 6000mm hydrostatic head
  • Weight: 23.65kg

Kampa Kielder Air Driveaway Awning
Image: Winfields Outdoors

Kampa Kielder Air Driveaway Awning £599 now £399 (save £220.99)

Kampa was the company that first introduced air awnings more than a decade ago, and it has kept building on its reputation with clever designs. This Kielder model is designed for campervans, and oriented at a right angle from the opening sliding door. You get the awning itself with windows and blinds and a tunnel that connects to the campervan with its own door. In front of that, you also get a large sun canopy, easily big enough for a couple of chairs, where you can sit out and enjoy the great outdoors under partial cover.

All entrances are flat, making it easier for you to bring pushchairs, wheelchairs or bicycles inside. It’s only multiple point inflation, but that actually makes it easier to deflate if you are in a hurry to leave.

This Black Friday motorhome awning deal lets you save a third off the RRP – throw in an extra £20 and they will give you a groundsheet and carpet too. The groundsheet clips on, so you can easily remove it if you arrive somewhere where they are not allowed.

  • Awning type: Multiple point inflation
  • Attachment height: 180-210cm
  • Material: Weathershield 150D with UV protection
  • Weight: 15.83kg
  • Pack size: 72 x 34 x 34cm

Olpro awning

Olpro Cocoon Driveaway Campervan Awning £840 now £399 (save £441)

We liked the Cocoon, which runs parallel to the vehicle, from the first time we saw one, shortly after the model launched in 2018 (full review: Olpro Cocoon Breeze). It has since come on to become the company’s most popular driveaway awning, and I think it’s easy to see why. You get an inner tent capable of taking five berths – so your kids can really have a sleepover away from the parents although close enough still for you to keep an eye on what is going on. There’s a sewn-in groundsheet and a large canopy out the front where you can easily store bikes and barbecues too.

The material the awning is made from has a 5,000mm hydrostatic head, so perfectly reasonable for waterproofing. I like that the guy ropes are fluorescent too, reducing the likelihood of tripping over them on your way to the loo at night.

The awning relies on fibreglass poles rather than inflatable tubes, but Olpro thinks it should only take 25 minutes to put up. It weighs 24kg all told – pretty good for all the space you get, in my opinion.

  • Awning type: Poled
  • Attachment height: 190-250cm
  • Material: Oltech 190T Polyester with 5,000m hydrostatic head
  • Weight: 24kg
  • Pack size: 82x43x43cm
