If you’re in the market for a larger-than-average awning for your camper van, this is a bit like adding a sizeable tent to the side of your ‘van.
Olpro’s Cocoon Breeze is shown here with the optional extension – that’s the open bit at the front that almost doubles overall size and adds valuable extra shelter and storage space.
The front? Yes. To get your bearings, this awning sits parallel to the ‘van – with its front adjacent to the back of your vehicle. Access between the two is via the large side-door panel that opens into the ‘vestibule’ area between tent and ‘van.
It all connects to your camper via any awning rail, or by throwing two guy lines over the ‘van for pegging out.
It’s multi-point inflation, but that shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes of pumping. Then it’s down to you how much pegging out you want to do. There are also three independent beams if you want extra support.
The sage-green and chalk colour scheme shown here has proved very popular. It’s the most recent addition; or you might prefer blue/grey or orange/black/blue.
The fabric is a 150D Oxford polyester with a 5000mm hydrostatic head rating for its waterproof abilities (the higher the figure, the better). The denier isn’t the highest, but it does help to keep the weight down.
The extension, in the same quality fabric, means you get a large shelter/storage area, adding a further 455cm in length and 6.6kg in weight.
A big selling point is the inner bedroom that comes as standard. Again, it makes an awning like this perfect for a camper van, where daily use as a not-too-large passenger carrier can mean that, at weekends, you want a bit of extra living and sleeping space.
The awning divider can be unzipped and rolled back, and it will sleep up to five. There’s also a handy built-in organiser on the front.
The main ventilation is courtesy of a large vent at the back, and you can also zip out the door panel.
It comes with a sewn-in groundsheet; great for insulation, not so good if you’re pitching for longer than just a few days. Other details range from luminous straps to hook-and-loop fittings for light strips.
The Cocoon Breeze is only available direct from Olpro; delivery is free and there’s a no-quibbles returns policy for the first 30 days.
The awning’s weight is 24kg with dimensions of 350cm width by 455cm diameter and a fixing height of between 190cm to 240cm.
