This clever four-berth impressed our judges with its luxurious floorplan, surprisingly spacious interior and excellent kit. Swift’s Edge range is a totally new line-up for the 2020 season, and we were intrigued by it from the start. Ii is well worth it’s place on our best 4-berth motorhome roundup.

The Hull manufacturer excels at high-end coachbuilts – witness the Swift Kon-tiki Dynamic for clear proof of that – so it was fascinating to step inside this new budget line-up for
the first time.

Edge is very much aimed at first-time buyers, and we think it really hits the mark with the 494.

There’s a clever blend of luxurious floorplan – a large transverse island bed stretches across the rear, and there’s plenty of space throughout the interior – and entry-level touches: you’ll find everything you could need here, but you won’t feel as though you’ve paid for anything you’re not likely to use.

The 494 is a four-berth, but we reckon that some couples will want to keep it to themselves, using the overcab bed as a storage area, or for accommodating the occasional guest.

Either way, the practicality of four belted seats allows you the option to do that whenever you like.

This really is a lot of motorhome for the money: there’s an excellent level of kit in here, including Truma Combi heating, a Dometic 8-series fridge, an oven and grill, cab air-conditioning, Duvalay mattresses on the beds, pleated blinds on the windows… and the list goes on.

The soft furnishings look and feel classy, and there’s plenty of storage space – the 494 has a reasonable payload of 525kg, too.

In addition, if you decide that you want to make your Edge more personalised, there are a number of options to choose from, including a bike rack, an awning and more.
