First Hydrogen unveils its first-ever concept campervan

First Hydrogen, an Anglo-Canadian firm developing hydrogen fuel cells, has unveiled its first-ever concept campervan.

First Hydrogen claims that fuel cell electric vehicles, such as those with hydrogen cells, are a better match for motorhomes than electric batteries, because they have longer ranges, carry heavier payloads, and readily adapt to powering other parts of the vehicle.

Refuelling also only takes the same amount of time it would take to refuel a conventional fossil fuel vehicle.

First Hydrogen has developed the concept campervan with mobility company EDAG, with the focus on driver comfort, so the spec includes a sizeable windscreen and good ground clearance.

The firm has started commercial vehicle trials with its first-generation fuel cell, working in partnership with the UK Aggregated Hydrogen Freight Consortium and fleet manager Rivus.

Steve Gill, First Hydrogen chief executive of automotive, said: “The campervan is an example of how we see hydrogen fuel cell and other electric vehicle technologies having wider applications.”
