Equipping your motorhome with accessories is one of the best ways to make your tour more comfortable. From decorations to clothes to cookware, there is seemingly no end to your choice of accessories. So how do you narrow down what you really need and find the best motorhome accessories for your tours?

That’s where the Practical Motorhome Awards 2024 can come in. We’ve done the hard work for you, as our judges have shared our pick of the top options on the market which can enhance your touring experience and add a little extra comfort to your ‘van when you’re kitting out a motorhome.

This year, we’ve picked out the Campacool TM Mattress Topper as the best motorhome accessory on the market – we really like how it should make sleeping on tour that bit more comfortable. We’re also sharing the products that made our shortlist, which include a lightweight and comfortable camping chair, ideal for soaking up the atmosphere of your campsite, and the Omnia Stovetop Oven, a practical and compact cooking product.

The best motorhome accessory is:

Campacool TM Mattress Topper

Reason to buy:

  • Makes summer touring much more comfortable and enjoyable

Reason to avoid:

  • Might not be necessary if you have air con

Even in cooler weather, we all know how stuffy your space can get and how that can affect your night’s sleep. That’s where this year’s winner comes in – we think it’s ideal for achieving a good night’s sleep on tour.

We tested our winner during a two-night stay on a warm weekend and were impressed with how comfortable and cool it kept us. The topper is made from a phase-changing material that promotes cooling by taking heat from the body and expediting evaporation. With a profile of 2.5cm, the topper can be easily rolled up if it’s being used on a roll-away or pop-top bed.

The design combines Swiss Bio-Oil cooling technology and specialised fabric with mesh layers made in the UK, giving a lightweight but robust result. The materials used are what give it breathability and well as comfort, so it’s great for adding some support to your existing mattress. It comes in King, Double and Single options and is fitted with a removable cover, both of which are washable up to 40ºC.

On the shortlist for the best motorhome accessory are:

Omnia stovetop oven
The Omnia stovetop oven

Omnia Stovetop Oven

Reason to buy:

  • Portable, ideal for ‘vans with no oven or small oven

Reason to avoid:

  • Can’t be used on an induction hob

This product made the shortlist last year in this category but we think it’s such a useful and versatile product that it’s worth including again in a list of the best motorhome accessories.

The Omnia takes into account the fact that some motorhomes only have small ovens – or in the case of some ‘vans, no oven at all. It will come to your rescue, allowing you to rustle up an on-tour feast. As the name implies, this portable product sits on the stove (or another heat source, although it doesn’t work on an induction hob) and allows you to rustle up plenty of on tour feasts.

Easy to use – there’s no installation required – it’s a hassle-free way of being able to cook. Don’t forget to take the right motorhome crockery away either, so you can enjoy your feasts without the worry of it breaking or chipping if you drop it.

Carote Pan Set

Carote Pan Set

Reason to buy:

  • Comprehensive, stylish and space-saving

Reason to avoid:

  • There are lighter alternatives to the 4.45kg set

Something we like to see in the best motorhome accessories – and a touring kitchen – is multi-functionality. We love the adaptability of this modular cookware range, which includes a single removable handle suitable for all the pans included. Whether you choose the 5, 8 or 11 piece set, each of the pans is made from SGS-approved non-stick granite which uses less oil during cooking and reduces smoke.

We recommend the 8 piece set, since it includes a frying pan (26cm), sauté pan (26cm), 2 saucepans (18cm and 20cm) and 3 sizes of silicone lid (18, 20 and 26cm) as well as 1 removable handle. The set is designed to be easily stackable so it’s perfect for a motorhome kitchen.

The bases are made from magnetised metal which not only provides a large heating area but is suitable for gas, electric ceramic, halogen and campervan induction hobs. All the pieces come in an attractive white-granite effect and are super easy to clean.

iBeani Quishion

Reason to buy:

  • Lightweight and useful without taking up a lot of space

Reason to avoid:

  • Not waterproof so might not be suitable if you plan on lots of outdoor use

Another multifunctional accessory that made the shortlist is this handy 2-in-1 cushion and blanket. Made from lightweight but surprisingly soft polyester, the space-saving motorhome accessory can function as a throw cushion or a good sized quilt, perfect for keeping on hand for picnics, relaxing on your pitch or adding some comfort to your living space.

The 45m x 45cm scatter cushion comes in 3 colours and features a simple, quilted pattern as well as a sturdy zip around the edge. The cosy cushion can also be unzipped and unfolded into a 190cm x 140cm quilted blanket, which packs away in seconds. It’s fully machine washable and complies with the appropriate fire safety regulations. Whether you’re a motorhomer yourself or you’re looking for a gift for one that you know, the Quishion is a year-round accessory that adds some functional luxury to a tour.

Helinox Chair One

Reason to buy:

  • Very compact and lightweight

Reason to avoid:

  • Some people might find it too low to the ground

No tour is complete without a good camping chair for relaxing on a warm day or hanging out under the stars. We chose this sleek Helinox model from our line-up of the best camping chairs on the market. At 960g, this chair is incredibly lightweight and packs down to just 14 inches in the included stuff sack. Inside the durable aluminium frame is a bungee cord that allows self-assembly, while the seat itself supports up to 145kg.

The seat is made from 600D polyester that’s supportive and designed with comfort in mind. Mesh panels maintain breathability while the robust frame means the chair keeps its shape well, offering plenty of support. Being low to the ground aids in its stability, as well as comfort and transportability.
