A flimsy and wobbly table can ruin a great meal, with diners fidgeting and fussing around, trying to find stones, beer mats or bits of cardboard to prop up the leg that’s dangling in mid-air. So it’s a great relief to discover the superior qualities displayed by quite a few excellent camping tables for sale in the UK today.

We’ve also tested the £53.99 Outwell Penticton camping table, the Kampa Element Waterproof Table Medium at £54.99, the Coleman 6 in 1 Camping Table costing £70 and the Quest Elite Packaway Slatted Table at £44.99.

Our overall test winner, and in our opinion the best camping table for most people, was the Quest Elite Packaway Slatted Table, but others came pretty close. Later in this review we’ll shine our spotlight on the very promising Coleman 6 in 1 Camping Table. First, a note about the way we tested the products in our group test.

To find the best camping tables for motorhome touring, we looked for lightweight, well constructed, cleverly designed camping tables. The pack-down size matters, given the lack of spare storage capacity in most motorhomes. We measured the tabletop sizes and made sure they would give room for everyone’s plates and legs.

Table heights need to relate to the camping chairs you use on holiday, so if you can get camping tables with adjustable legs and feet it’s a bonus. Truly variable heights can mean that just one camping table can be used as a coffee table as well as the main dining table for eating meals outdoors.

Easy-to-clean tabletops won our votes, since we definitely don’t want crumbs mouldering in cracks and crevices within the tabletop. Those could make the whole motorhome smell musty, if left for a while.

How fast and how easily can the table be put up and packed away? Will our camping table fall apart if we accidentally leave it out in the rain? We checked all these things and more.

So, in a nutshell, how did the Coleman 6 in 1 Camping Table, costing £70, do in our test session? Essentially this product is actually a set of two tables, which can be joined to make a single 80cm x 80cm square surface. Alternatively, the two half tables can be separated, joined end on end and formed into a corner unit.

And that’s before we take into account the four possible heights of the two parts: 37cm, 47cm, 70cm, and 80cm. This is an incredibly versatile system that’s great when used as a table for two, or as a coffee table or even as a makeshift galley under a gazebo or in an awning for motorhome rallies.

Coleman has to be commended for making this idea work in practice. Despite the many joints, the system is incredibly secure. It gets many of the basics right, too, such as having adjustable feet and a compact 40cm x 80cm x 7cm pack-down size.
