Volkswagen has given its Grand California model an update for the 2025 season that includes an improved touchscreen in the cab, and, for the first time, a touchscreen in the living area.
If you’re looking at the options for the best VW camper vans and want one with plenty of tech, the Grand California could be worth considering. The new touchscreen in the cab is 10-inch wide as standard (upgradable to 12.9-inch), and comes with App Connect, giving easy access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
As with the standard California, the 5-inch touchscreen in the living area lets you control the camper-specific settings such as water levels and battery charge.

The larger Grand California 680 is available with either front wheel drive or 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The engine has been updated so that the standard 2.0-litre engine now has an output of 163PS, with a torque of 410Nm.
The new vehicle will be available in seven different paint colour options. These include Candy White, Iridium Grey Metallic and Oyster Silver Metallic, and four dual tone colour ways: Candy White above Mojave Beige, Deep Ocean Blue or Cherry Red, and Oyster Silver above Iridium Grey.
Prices start at £86,800 for the Grand California 680, and £84,086 for the shorter Grand California 600. If you’re wondering “what driving licence will I need to drive the motorhome?”, only the latter has an MTPLM of 3500kg, meaning anyone can drive it.

The release of the 2025 model follows on from the brand’s success at our recent Owner Satisfaction Awards, where Volkswagen took the title of Best New Base Vehicle.
