The Erwin Hymer Group (EHG) has signed a long-term cooperation agreement with family-owned Ahorn Camp, which could see the multinational start to make more vehicles based on Renaults, popular vans for converting to a camper.
As part of the agreement, which lasts initially for five years, Ahorn Camp motorhomes and campervans (see: campervan vs motorhome if you’re stuck between the two) will start to be produced at EHG’s highly advanced factory in San Casciano in Italy. The first vehicles are likely to start production in September, shortly after they are shown at Caravan Salon.
All Ahorn Camp vehicles, however, are built exclusively on Renault bases, and EHG sales director Jan de Haas said the agreement “will boost our collaboration with the joint partner Renault and open up unique development and growth opportunities for all participating companies”.
For the moment there is no change in ownership of either company. The last significant company EHG took over before it was taken over itself by US-based Thor Industries was the UK’s Explorer Group, which owned Elddis.
The agreement between Erwin Hymer Group and Ahorn Camp follows the recent new launch of the Avalon range from Elddis, an upmarket range which is replacing the Encore.
Those on the hunt for a new ‘van could also be interested in the updates Volkswagen have given its Grand California campervan, which is now coming with more tech and and an updated engine.
