SWIFT GROUP’S SHUFFLING of its 2015 motorhome pack has seen the luxury low-profile Bessacarr 500 range discontinued. This clears the way for the popular Bolero to stand out even more, especially now the line-up has been repackaged for the new season with Black Edition status.

A big success when rolled out in Swift’s flagship Kon-Tiki range at last spring’s NEC show, Black Edition styling brings a black cab, a new graphics scheme and improved specification to the Bolero, including a solar panel and an external barbecue point. With prices increasing by just 3.3% for 2015, these extra goodies look like good value for money. Black Edition increased Kon-Tiki sales by 67% last year; we will wait with interest to see whether it has the same effect on Bolero.

And these changes come at an opportune time. With the move to new Fiat cabs and the adoption of timber-free SMART bodyshell construction for all coachbuilt motorhomes, there are plenty of reasons to bag a new Bolero, whether upgrading, replacing or even downsizing from a bigger ’van. With these 2015 updates, Swift has removed a lot of deliberation from the decision process – the term ‘no brainer’ strongly comes to mind.

The 2015 Bolero Black Edition range has grown to six models, with the addition of the 714SB layout. This is a longer version of the 712SB, extended to accommodate a front dinette.

All models are built on 2.3-litre, six-speed Fiat Ducato base vehicles teamed with Al-Ko chassis. Two models are powered by 130bhp engines; the other four take the more powerful 150bhp variant. Automatic gearboxes are available on all these Swift motorhomes.

All Boleros offer fixed beds, whether rear doubles or twins, with Duvalay memory foam mattresses – a Swift Group exclusive – as standard.

New and improved

A lot of changes have been made to the new-season Boleros. A black front bumper, silver front grille, LED daytime running lights and new 16in alloy wheels combine well with the facelifted Fiat Ducato.

In the cab, a new instrument panel has a more automotive look and now offers a gearshift indicator to maximise fuel economy. A handy bottle holder mounted centrally under the dashboard solves the perennial Fiat Ducato dilemma of where to put bottles and cups while in motion. Bluetooth and USB connectivity have been added, too, and radio reception improved by a mirror-mounted aerial.

Inside, a package of Swift Group-wide spec bumps is on display, including new cab seats with integrated headrests, wider backrests and improved side support, as well as the new mid-tone Aralie Sen cabinetwork.

A new grey and black soft furnishings scheme features silver accents and looks very classy. Other design tweaks include dimmable LED spotlights and LED overlocker lighting, plus a new stepwell light. Kitchen upgrades include new chrome effect taps, a new splashback pattern, chrome sockets and switches and a new Thetford oven and grill specially designed to make less noise while in transit. A 60W solar panel is also fitted.

Alde’s wet central heating and water heating system benefits from a new circulation pump, and Truma’s Crash Sensor Mono regulator allows the heating system to be used while on the road. The Winter Pack (fresh- and waste-water tank heaters, drain insulation and fridge vent covers) is fitted as standard; all Boleros achieve the Grade 3 insulation standard, so they are genuine four-season motorhomes.

The Vogue options pack adds cab air-conditioning, cruise control, a new Status 550 TV aerial and a twin-view reversing camera. All Bolero models come with the Tracker Retrieve tracking system and enjoy Swift’s 10-year bodyshell integrity warranty.
