KON-TIKI, SWIFT GROUP’s tag-axle motorhome range, sold out when its Black Edition styling was unveiled last season. Extra production was allocated to meet the demand, and two new single-axle models were added mid-season to broaden Kon-tiki’s appeal further.

Although certainly not lacking in the specification department, the Black Edition package of tasty upgrades made the already desirable Kon-tiki even more tempting. In came a 100W solar panel, Duvalay mattresses and external shower and barbecue points. This joined goodies like dimmable lighting, a multi-function leather steering wheel, Alde wet central heating and a full-length awning.

For 2015, the improvements continue, with the new Fiat Ducato cab, timber-free SMART bodyshell construction and Swift Group-wide spec bumps added to the mix. There are other benefits, too, including DAB radio and new 16in alloy wheels. Prices will increase by only 2% for 2015, adding £1300 to the 625’s 2014 price of £64,995, for example.

There are no deletions, so the Kon-tiki range stays the same, with one high-line and four low-line models (although high-line options are available on two low-line models, the 669 and 679). The three tag-axle ’vans are built on the 5000kg Al-Ko chassis, with the two single-axle models on the 4250kg Al-Ko chassis. All have double floors to accommodate tanks, plumbing and storage.

Improved offering

The 2015 Kon-tikis have a pleasing external look. These Swift motorhomes feature colour-keyed front bumpers to match the metallic cab, as well as LED daytime running lights. A silver front grille and new 16in alloy wheels round off the look very well.

In the cab, a new high-level instrument cluster has a more automotive look and now offers a gearshift indicator to help drivers achieve better fuel economy. A bottle holder mounted centrally under the dashboard solves the Fiat Ducato issue of where to put cups and bottles while in motion. Bluetooth and USB connectivity have been added for 2015, and DAB radio reception will be further enhanced by a mirror-mounted aerial for a better signal.

Swift Group-wide spec bumps are very much in evidence in the new Kon-tiki, including new cab seats with integrated headrests, wider backrests and improved side support, as well as the new mid-tone Aralie Sen cabinetwork.

The soft furnishings scheme is brown with textured white sections. The LED spotlights are dimmable and the overhead lockers have LED lighting running along the top edge. Kitchen improvements include new chrome effect taps, chrome electrical sockets and switches and a new Thetford oven and grill specially designed to make less noise while out on the road.

Elsewhere, the Swift Kon-tiki range continues with the specification from last season, including cab air-conditioning, Alde wet central heating, Duvalay mattresses, a 120W solar panel, a full-length awning, a reversing camera and the Tracker Retrieve tracking system, and it gains a new Status 550 TV aerial.

With two leisure batteries, a solar panel and Grade 3 insulation, all Kon-tiki models are genuine four-season motorhomes that will be happy to go off grid. The whole package is backed up by Swift’s 10-year bodyshell integrity warranty.
