Demand for motorhomes continues to grow

The growing popularity of motorhomes shows no signs of slowing down, with a rental company reporting a 700 per cent increase in demand in comparison to 2020.

The staycation boom isn’t going anywhere either, with the freedom and flexibility offered proving an attractive proposition for many. However, this demand, coupled with the supply chain issues that are being felt globally, is leading to both stock shortages and price rises.

In fact, Matt Sims, managing director of rental business, The Motorhome Holiday Company, said prices have risen by up to 60 per cent, and in some cases, shortages have left him waiting for four months to receive parts.

He commented: “We have to act quickly to secure stock, which is going up in price. We’ve ordered some parts which were promised six-week delivery – then took nearly four months to arrive.”

This also includes components for appliances within motorhomes, including fridges and heating systems.

It’s interesting to see how the typical consumer has also changed during this time too, with Matt commenting: “We used to deal mostly with retirees. Now we are seeing more people in their early 20s, looking for adventure, or families with young children.”

“It’s not just about the travel, but the experience. It’s about spending quality time with your loved ones in a setting of your choosing.”
