As expected, Apple announced a new smaller iPad last week — the iPad Mini.

Although essentially a scaled down version of the iPad with a 7.9” screen and much the same features, the Mini does have a slightly different design.

The iPad Mini also lacks a ‘retina’ display too, although its 1024 x 768 resolution (same as the iPad 2) should still look sharp on the smaller screen. It is compatible with all current iPad apps, too.

Available in two colours, the iPad Mini comes in Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi+Cellular models with a range of capacities, just like the standard iPad.

The only catch is that the price is much higher than anyone was expecting, with the cheaper 16GB Wi-Fi model costing £269.

The iPad Mini goes on sale on 2nd November, but the first batch available for pre-order online sold out within a couple of days and there’s now a two-week wait for all models.
