At 40 litres, the fridge isn’t massive
If there was a roll call of T6 VW campervan conversions, this could be the flagship – it certainly was in Practical Motorhome‘s T6 group test.
This ’van is from CMC, the only British company authorised by Reimo – the German giant that supplies parts for van conversions – to carry out full conversions. Others are welcome to use Reimo parts, but nothing more. Concept Multi-Car, to give this company that’s headquartered in Hythe, Kent its full name, has worked with Reimo for more than 25 years – it also operates a campervan hire company.
Let’s address the elephant in the room before we go any further: it is not cheap. In our T6 group test it was the most expensive, its impressive kit list taking it up to £57,958, from a starting price of £42,250. As pictured, its specification includes the latest 150PS (148bhp) engine with the DSG automatic transmission, a pairing that may emerge as the most popular for T6 campers. Moreover, Volkswagen has introduced such new colour options as Blackberry metallic (pictured – which costs £995).
The Trio High Style, which is exclusive to CMC, features a new type of furniture made from an aluminium composite sandwich that’s both thinner and stronger than the standard finished ply most converters provide. This change also explains the thinner worktop, complemented here by the flush-fitting lid to the Dometic two-ring hob and a new composite sink with a mixer tap that can be pulled up and used outside via the sliding window.
All this creates a furniture unit that is shallower than most, but its design is particularly natty, led by a black-granite effect worktop and furniture finished in high-gloss acrylic.
Directly under the worktop is a neat multifunction rail that can take all kinds of hooks and holders. Further down is a Waeco Coolmatic compressor fridge, but its capacity is only 40 litres. An adjacent locker with a tambour door is home to a portable toilet, plus there’s a handy shelf above it. Just to its right is Reimo’s standard wardrobe, with an unusual slide-down door.
This CMC Reimo Trio High Style also picks up on a couple of the VW California’s favourite features: the table built into the door, and a couple of outdoor seats in a zipped bag attached to the tailgate.
Nevertheless, it offers much more than the California in terms of seating; that rear seat is the latest version of Reimo’s Variotech 3000. It’s a gem, offering three lots of integral seat belts and a choice of six travel positions, thanks to its floor rails. It really does mean you can ring the changes between seating location and luggage space at the back of the vehicle. With options added, you could go on to have seven travel seats in total.
Overhead is Reimo’s Superflat roof with integral bed. It’s quite a high-ticket item, but some of that cost is raked back in terms of much quicker fitting time.
With the roof raised, the CMC Reimo Trio High Style has an external height of 2.8m, with 2.1m of internal standing room. This campervan also has a 3000kg MTPLM, a 2400kg MiRO and a 600kg payload.
