Verdict
This is a useful family campervan that can easily double-up as a day-to-day vehicle, and at a good price, too. Kitchen storage is particularly impressive, and the inclusion of Truma’s CombiNeo system is another bonus.
Pros
- Good storage in the kitchen
- Comes with Truma CombiNeo
- Well-designed washroom with two drainage holes
Cons
- A 69-litre water tank means there could be some delays while waiting for it to be filled up again if there are four of you
Auto-Sleepers’ Active range was introduced last year as a campervan range that’s firmly focused on the family.
All three models in the range have an MTPLM of 3500kg, so can be driven by anyone, and have four travel seats, which could make the line-up an attractive prospect for those who are searching for the best camper van. However, the pop-up roof that gets you four berths is a £6000 optional extra.
The Auto-Sleepers Active FL635, which has fixed single beds, impressed our judges enough to win the ‘Best campervan for a family of four’ category at the Practical Motorhome Awards.
However, for our review here, we’ve chosen the FG635 – it’s the same length (6.36m) as the FL635, but has a transverse bed at the end.
Take a look at our round-up of another campervan line-up which initially launched back in October too, the two-model Bailey Endurance range.
Cab and lounge in the Auto-Sleepers Active FG635
One thing you notice as soon as you climb in and slide the door shut is how well tinted the side and rear windows on an Auto-Sleepers campervan are.

The passenger seat in the standard Fiat cab swivels around, but the driver seat does not. In fact, the back of it doubles up as the backrest for the rearward-facing seat in the front dinette. This is not as uncomfortable as it might look – in fact, we thought it would do wonders for your posture!
The dinette has a foldaway table, to allow more room for the ladder up to the roof.

Such a table is at least large enough for whoever sits in the passenger cab seat to eat easily from it – all too often clip-on tables are not big enough here. The lounge is nicely lit with strip-lights under the lockers.
The kitchen in the Auto-Sleepers Active FG635
The kitchen has impressive workspace on both sides of the three-burner gas-only hob. We like how the area to the right is well serviced electrically, with a socket tower you pull out, so you can run any campervan gadgets you have for your ‘van’s kitchen.

You could easily position a kettle and toaster here (where they would be accessible if you had taken the table outside), leaving the other workspace area primarily for food preparation. There’s a big sink, and you do get a combined oven and grill down below, but only a half-height fridge.
For those of you who want to take extra cooking appliances on tour with you, see what we had to say about “can you run a microwave or an air fryer on an inverter?”
The washroom in the Active FG635
The washroom initially looks poky, but don’t be misled.
A question you may have when looking for a ‘van is “do campervans have showers?” Here, the showerhead may double-up as the basin tap, but because the basin can be slid away along a rail until you need it, there’s plenty of room to get showered in, and headroom is good, too. The room is well lit, and comes with two drainage holes – impressive for a campervan.

Truma’s CombiNeo system will provide continuous hot water here, although as this is a family ’van there could be some interruptions while the 69-litre water tank is filled up again.
Sleeping in the Auto-Sleepers Active FG635
You have to assemble the step that leads up to the bed at the back, but it’s comfy and has two spotlights.

Auto-Sleepers has also provided a cutaway cushion you can easily remove to access the handle for the barn doors. The bed in the roof, should you opt for it, is also comfy with a sprung mattress and two push-on lights.

We were impressed by the two separate catches – one like an aeroplane seatbelt, the other metallic and triangular – you have to employ to keep the roof down.
Storage in the Active FG635
A sturdy latch holds the rear bed up when you want to access the storage space underneath. On both sides under here there is a large cupboard and then a smaller one to make way for the wheel arch. There are overhead lockers on the offside, and a large shelf on the nearside too, for further campervan storage options.

There are three overhead lockers in the front lounge and clear space under the forward seat, in addition to the cubbyhole over the cab which still has some room even when the table is stored in there.

Kitchen storage is impressive, partly because the gas tank is underslung. There is a huge clear cupboard, accessible from two points, at the end of the peninsula. Another cupboard under the sink has a cutlery drawer, and there’s a good size locker under the oven. There’s also an unusual tall set of shelves actually under the bed, which is partly obscured by the bed apparatus.
Up above are two lockers and a cupboard, but we found the doors to these to be so large that you need to step back into the washroom to open them.
Alternatives to consider
If you’re a couple who are not so fussed by the pop-up roof, you could consider the Swift Carrera 144, a model which has been tweaked for the 2026 season and comes with a comfortable rear lounge.
Or you could consider the WildAx Equinox, a Transit-based campervan which has a large rear storage area and makes a good choice as a day-to-day vehicle.
