The Caravan and Motorhome Club (CAMC) has explained it has been the target of a cyber security incident.
A statement posted to the Club’s home page saw Director General Nick Lomas confirm they had been informed on Saturday 20th January that the incident had occurred, prompting the Club to alert the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
The Club also carried out measures that included taking their systems offline, which, it said, “greatly minimised the effects of this cyber security attack”.
Work is currently underway to determine if there was any unauthorised access or whether any member data has been breached. In the meantime, the Club has advised members to watch out for any unusual requests for personal information.
They also advised that members would be alerted once the incident has been fully investigated by the Club’s cyber security advisors.
Nick Lomas said: “Advice from our cyber security experts was to not raise public awareness of the incident and to allow their forensic team to carry out the necessary investigation to understand what systems (if any) may have been accessed.”
“We understand the lack of communications will have been frustrating for members but we have followed advised procedures in order to safeguard members until the full facts were known and to help avoid any potential further issues.”
The Club has been able to reopen its contact centre, where it can be contacted by anyone with queries, including amending or making new bookings for UK campsites.
