Why not take to the water?

Let’s hope the weather stays warm, as there are fantastic outdoor events taking place this month, many of them out on the water.

Join the extravaganza at Henley-on-Thames for the Royal Regatta (from 28 June to 3 July) – the six days of racing can be enjoyed by the public, who enter into the spirit of things by decking themselves out in snazzy blazers and stylish frocks.

As you’re in the county, why not head to Oxford for a spot of punting? At Magdalen Bridge Boathouse you can hire punts, rowboats or pedalos.

If you’re more of a light blue, perhaps make your way to Cambridge (pictured), where punt hire companies operate from Jesus Green.

On World Oceans Day (8 June), give a little back to our wonderful seas by joining one of the beach cleans run by the Marine Conservation Society.

Island race

Visitors to the Isle of Wight also have the opportunity to join the Round the Island race (25 June), one of the UK’s most popular yacht regattas.

A number of charter firms offer training and places in the event. If you’re staying longer, there’s more sailing action, with Cowes Week beginning on 30 July.

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee was marked by an extended bank holiday (2-5 June); celebrations include beacons across the country.

For something different…

It’s all strawberries and cream for sports fans as the Wimbledon Championships (27 June to 10 July) serve a feast of tennis. The games start with the men’s warm-up matches at London’s Queen’s Club (13-19 June) and the women’s at Eastbourne International (20-26 June).

One of the best things about a touring holiday is that you can bring your dog with you, and by following a few simple guidelines, ensure that you all have a truly tail-wagging time.

Before you leave, make sure your dog is microchipped and wearing a tag with your contact details. Double check your site accepts dogs, then check out doggie rules and make sure the whole family is aware of them.

Consider a short break, closer to home, for your first doggie tour and don’t forget to take a few dog towels with you. You can get more touring with pets tips in our guide to touring with dogs.
