Flodabay Farm is a working croft with an onsite B&B – it actually sits in 50 acres of croft land. However, for those who want to get away in their motorhomes, there are three hardstanding pitches with electric hookup and water connections.

The adults only motorhome site provides a peaceful setting and breathtaking views over the Bays of Harris and towards mainland Scotland, as well as the Isle of Skye.

It’s a great location to consider if you’re a keen wildlife spotter, with a wide variety drawn to the area, ranging from whales and dolphins to eagles and buzzards. You’ll find yourself not too far away from a secluded jetty, where you may spot otters and seals as well.

History fans who stay there are sure to love taking in the ancient stone circle of Calanais (Callanish) and the 16th century church of St Clements in Rodel.

Boasting a breathtaking view towards Anglesey and the Great Orme at Llandudno, the campsite provides an excellent base for taking in the beauty of the North Wales coast.

Facilities are good too, including a luxury toilet and shower block, while every pitch comes with 16 amp electric hook-up and easy access to water.

Privacy is provided when you’re pitched up, thanks to plant and shrub screening, while each of the 42 all-weather pitches comes with 16-amp hook-up. Other amenities include heated toilet and shower blocks, dog-friendly walking areas and laundry facilities.

Open all year long, it’s set in a wooded valley and offers plenty to do in the surrounding area. Set in 150 acres, it’s a dog-friendly site, with canines welcome in The Lakes Tearoom & Bar, while there are two secure walking areas, along with warm dog showers. That’s not all, with a number of canine-friendly pubs and restaurants in the vicinity, as well as destinations to visit, such as Rutland Water and Melton Country Park.

There are a total of nine fishing lakes, where a mix of coarse and specimen fishing can be enjoyed. You can then head to the Clubhouse to enjoy some entertainment, while the tearoom offers a good selection of food.

Shrubbery Touring Park, Dorset

Dorset’s Lyme Regis is a place that has long captivated writers, including Jane Austen, Thomas Hardy and John Fowles. If you feel like embracing your inner muse by exploring this area, look no further than Shrubbery Touring Park. The 10-acre campsite is found in the East Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and provides a dedicated adults only area.

From there, you can explore the Cobb, a historic stone pier which curves out to the sea and is a feature in The French Lieutenant Woman by Fowles and Austen’s Persuasion.
