Verdict
Well made, with an excellent spec for the price, the Pilote Galaxy G740 G Sensation should offer years of happy touring. We particularly enjoyed the fixed bed, comfortable lounge and fully featured washroom, plus the flexibility of a drop-down bed.

Superb value for money

The fixed double bed is massive!
Cons
Habitation door is on the offside in the UK – best for Continental touring
French firm Pilote has reorganised its portfolio for the 2015 season into three low-profile ranges – A-class line-ups Galaxy and Diamond, plus the low-profile Pacific – and one van conversion range (Foxy Van). All vehicles are based on the sixth-generation Fiat Ducato. Galaxy and Pacific models are available in three trim levels (Essentiel, Sensation and Emotion), so buyers have plenty of choice when it comes to kit and options.
Pilote enjoys a reputation for build quality and sells at four UK dealerships, including Davan Caravans & Motorhomes in Weston-Super-Mare. The company regularly figures in our Motorhome of the Year awards – its Exporateur Diamond Edition G832LCE won the gong for Best Luxury Motorhome over 3500kg in 2013. Explorateur is no more, now that Diamond is a range in itself. We have reviewed many motorhomes from Pilote over the years and you can read our older Pilote motorhome reviews online.
Pilote A-class buyers looking to spend less will find plenty to get excited about in the new Galaxy range. One model that should prove popular is the four-berth G740 G, with a rear transverse bed above a rather large garage, or ‘boot’ as Pilote prefers to call it.

Living
The cab door is on the UK passenger side. The smart Aguti cab seats are finished in the same beige and chocolate trim as the lounge upholstery, a colour scheme that goes well with the mid-toned cabinetwork. The L-shaped seating has a wide single sofa on the offside, while a large rooflight behind the drop-down bed, and two windows on either side of the lounge, allow plenty of natural light.
Kitchen
With ivory worktops, black splashbacks and mood lighting, the L-shaped kitchen looks classy. It’s well equipped, too, with three gas burners, combination oven and grill and a large fridge/freezer. Drawers, a large overhead locker and drinks cabinet offer storage.
Washroom
The washroom is between the kitchen and bedroom and comprises a swivelling toilet, a basin and storage next to the vanity unit and beneath the basin. The washroom door can be used to close off the bedroom area from the front of the ’van.
A shower cubicle is located opposite the washroom. It’s well lined and sealed, with a rooflight, LED light and a pair of bi-fold doors. There’s space for lotions and soap in the plastic moulding behind the shower head mount.
Beds
The bedroom features a transverse bed, accessed via two steps. A small window on the offside, plus a roof light, lets in daylight. A manually operated drop-down double bed is located above the lounge; this is retained by a leather strap and is easy to operate.
Storage
In addition to the large rear garage, which can be accessed from both sides of the vehicle, there is a good selection of overhead lockers, drawers and cubbies, plus a three-quarter length wardrobe. A large pull-out locker, which has it own lid, is provided on the nearside exterior of the ’van.
