Verdict
If you’re looking for a coachbuilt with slide-out sections, then it’s a pretty niche market. Euro-Treka I’s spec levels are good and there’s a generous payload. This is a decent first attempt from newcomers Moto-Trek.
Pros
With the RV-style lounge slide-outs extended, there’s plenty of living space available
And with the folding-leaf table stowed, there’s even more room to socialise
Storage is excellent throughout
Moto-Trek will cater for individual customers’ requirements by reconfiguring the floorplan to suit the buyer
Cons
The washroom is split into two parts, on opposite sides of the ‘van, which seems a bit odd
We step aboard this British-built two-berth motorhome, which offers a slice of RV slide-out luxury in a coachbuilt body.
Best known for producing equestrian and motorsport support vehicles, Huddersfield-based Moto-Trek entered the motorhome market in autumn 2013 with its Euro-Treka range.
Its prime point of difference from the established players is the use of electrically operated slide-outs to significantly boost the living space.
Furthermore, while some manufacturers fit one slide-out section – as seen in the N-Class 630 SL from IH Motorhomes, which also launched at autumn 2013’s NEC show – Moto-Trek has gone for two: one in the lounge and another in the bedroom.
Living
The layout of our Euro-Treka I test ’van consisted of a front dinette with kitchen on the nearside and sofa on the offside, and rear bedroom with transverse-mounted island bed; the latter was on the nearside. Other layouts are available, with L-shaped lounge sofas, twin fixed single beds or a fixed double bed – as each ’van design is bespoke, Moto-Trek can cater for individual customers’ needs.
Each slide-out section’s depth is 60cm so the increase in available space is dramatic – especially in the lounge. When the folding-leaf table isn’t deployed, it truly feels as though you’re standing in the average domestic kitchen; it would make a great space for impromptu gatherings.
Kitchen
The Euro-Treka I’s kitchen has a good specification, with three gas burners, a combination oven and grill, a fridge with removable freezer compartment and a microwave.
A sink sits to the right of the cooker, and storage is catered for via drawers, a cabinet and overhead lockers. There’s also a clever cupboard for wine bottles where the kitchen meets the cab area.
Moto-Trek has thoughtfully included a vertical mains socket strip at the end of the kitchen worktop. It has a pair of USB sockets, too.
Washroom
A sliding door divides the bedroom from the split washroom, the design of which puts the shower on the nearside and the toilet and handbasin on the offside. The offside washroom features a space-efficient bench toilet and circular handbasin with large cupboard beneath. The washroom walls have a tiled effect, and there’s enough headroom for a six-foot person to be able to stand beneath the shower head.
On the other side, a mirror with vanity unit looks down on an oval sink with mixer tap, a space-efficient bench toilet sits on the other side, and there’s a blown-air inlet to keep the area warm. There’s plenty of good headroom.
The washroom arrangement doesn’t feel as integrated as you’d find in some other ’vans: it’s more like two separate rooms.
Beds
The second slide-out section is located in the rear bedroom. Extending it significantly increases the space around the foot of the bed, creating a roomy dressing area in front of the mirror. At the push of a button, this eliminates one of the disadvantages of a transverse-mounted island bed: there’s seldom much clearance – especially at the foot of the bed.
Storage
Our test ’van featured a storage area above the driver’s cab, reached via a flap with an opaque window. Buyers can specify an overcab bed in lieu of this storage area, at no additional cost, or a sunroof (a £599 option as it requires changes to the front pod).
The Euro-Treka I has several options for external storage, including long horizontal hatches near the rear of the ‘van that permit access to the area beneath the bed.
Kitchen storage options are comprehensive, with drawers, lockers and shelves.
Bedroom storage includes a pair of wardrobes, as well as cupboards and cubbies. Four plug sockets are included as standard.
