Ideal if you’re looking for a bit of quality in a drive-away inflatable to use for storage and/or daytime living.
Quality fabric, dual beading, quick… and easy!
No bedroom inner option
How can you go wrong with an awning called ‘Quick ‘n Easy’? Or is it tempting fate?
Initial signs are good for this inflatable drive-away from Dorema, which has pre-attached dual beading, so you can slide it through the connections of any Thule or Fiamma wind-out awning (or whichever rail your ‘van might come with).
So I’m happy to believe Dorema’s assertion it will fit “100%” of campervans. Well, those with an awning rail at 180-210cm from the ground. Or you can resort to the straps to go over the ‘van if you don’t have a rail.
And it is, indeed, easy. There are the usual bulk considerations associated with the all-in-one canvas, poles and (in this case) groundsheet nature of any inflatable – something to watch out for in terms of transportation and fetching it out of storage.
Otherwise, it’s a simple job of attaching to your ‘van and using the manual pump (supplied) to get sufficient air into it. Inflation is via three valves, pumping up the back beam first.
The Weathertex fabric is a pretty heavy-duty 150D, with a hydrostatic head waterproof rating of 4000mm. It’s in the usual black and grey, offset by hi-vis straps for guy lines and storm protection. Adjustable straps each side provide a snug fit against your vehicle.
Once up and pegged out, access to the Quick ‘n Easy is via side doors at either end of the tunnel section, with the main door at the front. You can also roll up the back wall for full access from awning to ‘van.
Size matters, especially in a drive-away for a camper, where you want to balance maximum living space and minimum pack size. Of the awning’s 350cm depth, 100cm is accounted for by the tunnel between the tent area and the ‘van to which it’s attached.
There’s a very large front window, too, all part of a doorway that can be rolled up for full ventilation when required, with a mesh panel. All windows have blinds. Elsewhere, there are top vents, and mesh on the side.
This isn’t for longer-term pitching on grass – it has a sewn-in groundsheet, with the usual benefits of superior insulation. But, because we pitched on hardstanding, we used a footprint.
