The Practical Motorhome Bessacarr E665 review – does this Swift Group 'van hit the spot?

    Verdict

Well built and stylish – the Swift Group has raised the bar a fraction yet again.

    Pros

Eye-catching exterior and interior design; excellent level of standard equipment.

    Cons

Very little workspace in the kitchen.

    Living

The dining table can be left up in transit, or removed and stashed in a dedicated locker at the foot of the fixed bed. It has a single leg that clips onto a wall rail and a leaf which extends the eating surface to 137 x 50cm. This extension brings the side sofa into play and, with the cab seats swivelled, five can comfortably dine here. With the table top at 75cm, there’s plenty of room to get your legs under it.

    Kitchen

The kitchen offers an oven and separate grill, three gas hobs plus an electric hotplate that will help you get best value out of the electricity you’ve paid for on a campsite. A microwave oven is included as standard and this kitchen boasts clever, moulded, rotating storage trays under the sink and overhead. However, due to the area’s L-shape, there is very little workspace. You do get a chopping board which doubles as a sink cover, and a clip-on drainer.

    Washroom

The corner washroom has two folding partition doors, which create a shower of 55 x 80cm, a duckboard floor, and a door lock. It also has a big, wooden, overhead locker for toiletries and the like.

    Beds

Bessacarr has focused plenty of energy on the practicality and comfort of the rear corner sleeping berth, so this is where a lot of the best attention to detail is found. It does have a substantial corner cutaway, and at its narrowest the mattress is only 90cm wide. It is a one-piece, domestic-quality mattress with an aluminium-framed, slatted base. Its hydraulic supports make for easy access to the under-bed storage area.

The overcab bed has 62cm of headroom, with a side window and a single strip light in the corner. When the bed base is raised on its gas struts, there is space in the moulded tray beneath to store objects.

    Storage

The E665 has a significant payload advantage over some rivals thanks to its four-tonne chassis rating. The all-important under-bed storage space is user-friendly thanks to a reasonably-sized 75 x 30cm external locker door. The gas struts which support the entire mattress are easy-up and self supporting, so it’s a breeze to get at gear stashed here. The coat hooks by the entry door are a nice touch, too.
