Read the Practical Motorhome Autocruise Stargazer review – is it worth the money?

    Verdict

Autocruise has excellent storage options, but generally disappoints given its high price.

    Pros

Excellent amount of storage and well-designed interior space

    Cons

    Interior décor dated
    Washroom is small

    Living

The end-kitchen arrangement has the habitation door at the rear nearside. This creates a nice end-kitchen layout, freeing up more space in the lounge, but makes entering the motorhome a bit tight.

The Stargazer has a small step down into the cab: the floor from the lounge into the kitchen is flat so there’s little chance of an untimely fall. The main drawback here is that the interior décor looked rather dated. There are also velvety panels on the lounge walls, which seem gratuitous and add nothing practical.
The floorplan focuses on providing a comfortable lounge space. There’s room for four to dine at a freestanding table, or for six to lounge on the facing sofas (eight with the cab seats swivelled).

A Beko flatscreen TV, fitted on an adjustable mounting, is standard. A useful lounge feature are the curtains that slide all the way across the length of the lounge windows.

    Kitchen

Being a British ’van, standard kit includes an oven and grill. You also get a three-burner hob with one electric hotplate and adjustable mixer tap in the sinc and a habitation door bin.

Generally, the kitchen is solid, if not spectacular. Standout features include the two halogen spotlights above the cooker and the solid, wooden cutlery drawer.

Its greatest attraction though is the extra work surface gained from a drop-down section of worktop that covers the sink. When not in use, it stows tidily against the nearside wall, secured by a catch. The work surface above the 105-litre Dometic fridge is a respectable 85 x 58cm.

    Washroom

The washroom features holders for hand towels, toothbrushes and toilet rolls as well as a towel rail, and also has a door through to the main cupboard outside the washroom. The shower is made up with a swing-out wall, and is big at 90 x 60cm.

Sadly, there’s less room around the toilet and your legs clash with the door when sitting on the Thetford. It’s also too easy to bang your head on the mirrored unit above the sink when bending down to wash your face.

    Beds

The double bed has a slatted base to prevent the build-up of condensation on the underside of the cushions. The bed legs touch the floor permanently so you just have to pull the sofa base forward to construct the bed. This is a neat solution because you don’t have to fiddle with the legs when putting the base back. The bed is long enough for two people to stretch out length ways, and stretches across the width of the vehicle to easily accommodate people who are more than six feet tall.

    Storage

The Stargazer has a 68cm-long exterior locker on the offside and a larger, 101cm-long, version on the nearside. Both have recessed wet pockets in their bases.

With nine overhead lounge lockers and one in its low-profile front, the Autocruise has loads of storage space in the living area, too.

In the kitchen, there are two overhead lockers, two shelves and two drawers, as well as some stylish storage shelves above the work surface.

A wardrobe on the offside is tall enough for long items of clothing.
