Research has revealed the top 10 driest UK places in the UK for a holiday, with Skegness in Lincolnshire found to have the fewest number of rainy days.
Van owners up and down the country will be planning their tours, with the best campervan sites in the UK providing excellent facilities and the ideal setting for exploring. However, the changeable British weather can have a huge impact on the enjoyment of our getaways, which is where the research, conducted by Ripe Insurance, comes in.
To find the driest holiday destinations in the UK, Ripe studied historic Met Office data from 130 popular staycation spots, identifying the 10 destinations with the fewest wet days that subsequently offer a better chance of a rain-free tour.
Skegness (pictured) in Lincolnshire came out on top, averaging only 102 days of rain each year. The seaside town also has an average of 53mm of rain in July and August. The figures starkly contrast with the wettest spot, which Ripe’s research found to be Ullapool. Found on the west coast of Scotland, the data discovered there was an average of 213 wet days a year.
Taking second spot was Southend-on-Sea, a popular seaside destination in Essex with a pier that is nearly a mile long. The data revealed there are only 108 rainy days a year there, with an average of 62.5mm of rainfall in July and August.
Hot on the heels of Southend-on-Sea was third-placed Aldeburgh. The pretty town is a popular attraction in Suffolk and experiences only 109 days of rain a year. During the summer months, the Suffolk town has 64.7mm of monthly rainfall too, the study uncovered.

10. Tynemouth, Tyne and West – average number of rainy days: 116
