Scarborough introduces more temporary overnight motorhome parking bans

North Yorkshire Council has taken further steps to limit overnight motorhome parking in Scarborough, with four more roads now being subject to temporary bans.

Earlier this year the council decided to make permanent a temporary ban on overnight parking along the North Bay and at nearby Sandsend.

At the end of August new orders came into force banning motorhome parking between 11pm and 7am on Belvedere Road, Esplanade Crescent, Holbeck Road and Seacliff Road – all roads which either look over or are near to the town’s famous South Bay.

The bans are all currently temporary, but the council says it will be reviewing whether to make them permanent. The orders can be viewed online in either map or table form, and anyone wanting to object to them has until 20 May 2028 to make their objections known.

Local news reports quoted one councillor as saying the new restrictions were necessary because residents in affected streets had reported “waking up to campervans outside their windows, disposing of grey water, and hanging up laundry on their hedges”.

This last summer has seen a succession of councils either introduce such bans or consider introducing them. Along with Scarborough itself, areas affected include Saltburn and Loch Lomond.
