A new exhibitor at the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show at the NEC this week has included among its models on display an innovative VW camper conversion on a Crafter and a model based on the new Ford Transit Custom that can also be based on the new VW T7.

These are base vehicles that are among the best vans for converting to a camper.

Out and About Campers’ Crafter-based Summit model – also available on a MAN TGE –  includes a side kitchen behind the front dinette with a separate oven and grill. Designers opted for a transverse washroom layout that stretches right across the back of the vehicle and comes complete with a shower and cassette toilet. It also includes work surfaces and plenty of tambour doors made of eco-friendly bamboo.

Spec level is clearly geared towards those looking to travel off-grid, as it includes a 2000W inverter, 300Ah of batteries, a 270W solar panel, and a 63-litre insulated and heated water tank. With a pop-top roof, the van also includes five belted seats.

The new Custom-based Alpine model on display at the show is based on the Ford Transit Custom PHEV. It comes with two belted seats in the rear and also features much use of bamboo furniture. Spec includes a two-burner hob, a 42-litre Vitrifrigo fridge, and a 300-litre water tank.
