British manufacturer Lunar is marking its return to the coachbuilt motorhome market with the launch of four new models at this month’s Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show at the NEC Birmingham.
Providing an affordable alternative to the firm’s Mercedes-Benz Sprinter-based Landstar panel van conversions, the new Selena range on the Peugeot Boxer chassis is priced from £43,995 and returns the firm to the coachbuilt arena that it first entered some 30 years ago with the Roadstar.
From launch the line-up will comprise the six-berth, twin-bunk 690B, the four-berth, twin-single-bed 695G and the four-berth 740i featuring a rear island bed and a central washroom. Both four-berth models boast desirable and in vogue electric drop-down double beds over their lounge areas.
The standard kit list on all Selenas includes cab air-con, ESP, cruise control, hill start assist, height adjustable and swivelling cab seats, electric heated door mirrors and DAB radio. The washrooms feature domestic-style shower cubicles, while the fully equipped kitchens have a three-burner hob, a Smev oven and a 149-litre fridge.
But that’s not all. Also appearing at the NEC between 23 and 28 February will be a brand-new budget coachbuilt ’van bearing the Venus name, which will already be familiar to fans of Lunar’s touring caravans. It’s a bold move, and shows Lunar’s ambition in the motorhome market that it only re-entered in 2013, following a five-year sabbatical.
The entry-level Venus 590HL is aimed at tempting newcomers to the pastime. Positioned as a value-for-money coachbuilt, the Citroën Relay-based 590HL costs just £34,999 and sleeps four. Kitchen equipment in the Venus mirrors that of its Selena stablemates, however the washroom is a wetroom-style affair. And, impressively, the quoted 6ft 6in of internal headroom means that it should feel spacious on board. However, despite being shown at the NEC, Lunar has now withdrawn the Venus 590HL.
To find out for yourself, head to stand 3044 at the NEC’s Caravan, Camping & Motorhome Show later this month, where you can see and get inside all four of Lunar’s new coachbuilt ’vans.
