With easy access to both the M1 and Sheffield, Waleswood is a great base for exploring South Yorkshire and Derbyshire, and is only a short drive from the Peak District National Park, with its many attractions, including cycling and trail-walking – all framed by magnificent views.

That is if you can drag yourself away from this well-serviced site, where there are 163 pitches, all providing electric hook-up, and amenities including an outdoor play area, table tennis and football, and a coffee shop.

Waleswood is in the beautiful 750-acre Rother Valley Country Park, with hiking and cycling trails, a nature reserve, a watersports centre and café.

Visitors to this lovely North Devon park will be within easy reach of the stunning Valley of the Rocks, in Exmoor. It’s also near many attractive Devonshire towns and villages, including Ilfracombe, Combe Martin and Barnstaple, and only a 25-minute drive to the sandy beaches at Croyde and Woolacombe. Nearby, the wonderful landscape of Exmoor National Park, comprising moor, woods and rivers, has many excellent walking routes.

On site, the facilities are plentiful, with sizeable pitches, five amenity blocks, a shop, restaurant and bar. The indoor heated pool is open from April to October, and there’s a pitch and putt course and riding stables.

This five-star, adults-only holiday park, just 20 minutes from the busy town of Scunthorpe, sits beside the River Trent and has spacious, fully serviced pitches that are separated by laurel hedging and shrubs.

There are good walks in the woods behind the park and further afield, and access to the Lincolnshire Wolds and beach resorts such as Skegness.

Other nearby attractions include the pretty village of Burton-upon-Stather and beautiful walks along the Trent to the Burton Hills, where you can enjoy commanding views across the rivers Trent, Ouse and Humber.

If you want to see a marvel of modern engineering, the Humber Bridge is only half and hour away.

Beautifully positioned to enjoy the very best of the Jurassic coastline and packed with activities and amenities for the whole family, Highlands End makes a great choice for a winter touring destination.

On site, there’s a well-appointed leisure club, with a sauna, steam room and indoor swimming pool, a pitch and putt course, plus a shop, a bar and a restaurant.

There’s also a 2.9-mile nature trail that offers fine views from the South West Coast Path over Eype Beach.

Nearby, you’ll find the pretty fishing village of West Bay, with its iconic cliffs that were immortalised in the ITV series Broadchurch.

Bridport is just down the road, and you’re within easy reach of Lyme Regis to the west and Chesiol Beach to the east; both are a half-hour drive away.

Situated 15 miles to the north-east of Aviemore in the Cairngorms National Park, this site is in a fantastic location for exploring the dramatic landscapes of this part of Scotland.

Hiking, biking and climbing are all popular activities throughout the year, and of course, during the winter, there are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a range of snow sports, too.

While more technical hikes and climbs are available in the high mountains, there are also easier trails to explore, and the park is situated near two of Scotland’s Great Trails – Speyside Way and Dave Way.

Other attractions nearby include historic Balmoral Castle, fishing in the Spey and atmospheric Loch Ness.

The park itself has 130 touring pitches, serviced by two facilities blocks; there are also a number of extra-large super-pitches.

Set in 100 acres of mature woodland and gorgeous countryside in the heart of the Silverdale and Arnside Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Holgates’ flagship holiday park offers sweeping views of Morecambe Bay and Arnside Knott, renowned for its wildlife.

Silverdale is a wonderful all-year site, packed with facilities, and was the Regional Winner for North-West England in our Top 100 Sites Guide 2021.

Guests can take advantage of two indoor swimming pools, a spa pool, sauna and steam room, a gym and a bowling alley.

For excellent food and drink, there’s also a bar, café and restaurant, with a popular ice-cream parlour.

The picturesque village of Silverdale is a 20-minute walk from the park and nearby, you’ll find plenty of glorious sandy beaches with those superb views across Morecambe Bay.

If you’re planning to explore further afield, it’s wroth noting the bustling town of Kendal is only 15 miles away and can provide plenty of quality shopping and excellent restaurants.

In addition, of course, this is one of the gateways to the many natural wonders of the Lake District.

This rural site, which is located just 10 miles to the south of the historic city of Chester, is great for exploring Cheshire and North Wales.

Facilities at the campsite include hardcore super-pitches surrounding a central lake, where you can enjoy fishing during your stay.

There’s a café, games room and tennis court, and a heated toilet and shower complex. The heated outdoor pool is open from May to September.

Local attractions include Chester, with its 700-year-old Rows galleries and the remains of the largest Roman amphitheatre in Britain.

Nearby, Chester Zoo is home to more than 500 animal species on a 125-acre site. Another animal attraction that is well worth a visit is the Blue Planet Aquarium – scuba divers even have the chance to dive with sharks!

This five-star park on the south bank of the River Tweed is on the English side of the border, in Northumberland.

On site, facilities include a children’s playground and activity area, and the Old House Lounge Bar & Grill, serving a range of food and drink.

It’s a short journey across the river to nearby Berwick-upon-Tweed, England’s northernmost town, and there’s easy access to the atmospheric castle at Lindisfarne.

There are gorgeous beaches along this stretch of coastline heading south towards Bamburgh Castle, Seahouses and Beadnell.

If you decide to venture north into Scotland, you’ll come to the harbour town of Eyemouth and the delightful village of St Abbs.

Staying at Ord House, you’re also only an hour and 15 minutes away from Edinburgh, should you wish to take in the sights and attractions of the vibrant Scottish capital.

This adults-only touring park, located near the bustling town of Llanelli, was the Wales Regional Winner in our Top 100 Sites Guide 2021.

All 25 pitches here are hardstanding and have a fine view, and there are spacious heated shower rooms, toilets, and dishwashing and laundry facilities.

The campsite’s position, not far from the M4, makes this a great base from which to explore much of Wales.

There’s also easy access from here to the stunning Carmarthenshire coastline, which includes the eight miles of beach at Cefn Sidan – the longest beach in Wales.

The region is also well known for its excellent cycling routes, which cover coast, countryside and towns.

Alternatively, check out some of the many castles in the vicinity, including Carmarthen, Kidwelly and Llansteffan.
