Verdict
A fixed bed conversion of the very popular Fiat Ducato van. The interior incorporates intelligent storage space and the exterior is pleasing to the eye.
Pros
Accommodates three and has a fixed rear bed
Clever design with plenty of useful storage space.
Cons
Very little lounging space because of the position of the fixed bed.
Living
The Adria manages to fit rather more than expected into its 5.6m length. It features a toilet/shower room, inboard water tanks, blown air heating, and more storage than you can throw a month’s shopping at. There’s a fixed bed, as well as a separate lounge/dining area, which doubles as an extra single bed. There are two cubby holes located in the slightly raised lounge floor where you can safely hide a few bits.
The Twin has a three-seat lounge/dining area at the front, utilising a bench seat and the driver’s seat. The table can be removed for lounging, but with its fixed bed, this ‘van is compromised for space. Prospective owners must decide if the advantages of a fixed bed outweigh the disadvantages of lost space.
Kitchen
Kitchens are often restricted in ‘van conversions. The Adria’s clever solution to the cooking problem is to use half the space in front of the side door for a kitchen-cum-food preparation area. It also has an extra pop-up work surface. On summer days it means that the cooking smells waft out of the ‘van instead of dominating inside. There’s a two-burner hob, grill and sink and the dining table can be fixed outside so that everyone can eat in the fresh air. Standard equipment also includes a 77-litre Dometic fridge and hot-water boilers. There’s reasonable storage within close proximity to the kitchen – ideal for pots, pans and cutlery.
Washroom
Still quite rare among van conversions, you get a fully equipped shower room. There’s a reasonable amount of storage within its bijou washrooms and there’s a Thetford electric flush cassette toilets. The toilet areas are isn’t huge, but we had no problems with space.
Beds
The fixed bed is pleasing in a ‘van of this size: few beds beat one where you don’t have to fight to assemble the cushions at night. The Adria’s lounge also converts into a single bed, making it a three-berth ‘van. However, the single is perhaps only suitable for a child. There are curtains and a blind for the cab windows.
Storage
The Twin M is surprisingly roomy, with under-bed storage as well as numerous cupboards and a reasonably sized wardrobe above the fridge. The water tank is inboard and this cuts down on storage, although the Adria comes with two usable under-floor storage areas.
