THE LOCAL SWANS, ducks, herons and hares had this immaculate award-winning park all to themselves during the first half of 2020, the 20th anniversary of its inception.
Its owners were aiming for a countryside ambience when they began developing their site, and they achieved it with their own pond and wildlife area, being surrounded by fields and building a cottage-style washblock.
Its excellent eco-friendly credentials – the site has its own solar panel field – have been recognised with a David Bellamy Conservation Award, five pennants from the AA and of course, our Top 100 Sites Regional Winner for Northern Ireland.
The site is well placed for visiting the Giant’s Causeway and the Carrick-a-Rede bridge, with the Causeway Rambler bus stopping just outside the reception area.
Manager Conor O’Neill says: “During lockdown, we made preparations for reopening, which involved getting PPE, screens, cleaning products, signage and hand sanitiser. We have slowly reopened facilities and have carried out ongoing risk assessment. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. For 2021, we hope to plant more trees, for more habitats wildlife habitats.”
