Chelston: A quick history

Chelston Motorhomes, in Wellington, Somerset

Brenda and Stanley Eyles bought Snows Garage on the A38 near Wellington in 1973. The Chelston brand was born when they renamed the business Chelston Motors and Petrol.

In 1986, motorhomes made their first appearance on the site. Chelston Motors became Chelston Motorhomes in 1986 and by 1989, the business was booming. Chelston made an enormous leap forward when it obtained its first official franchise with Auto-Trail, and then a second with Bürstner.

Having outgrown the site, they bought land on the Business Park at Chelston for a new motorhome and caravan centre, which opened in 1999.

Chelston became an official Adria dealer in 2006, and in 2018, expanded its facilities. The site on the A38 has been redeveloped as a purpose-built retail sales preparation facility, with 10 bays. In 2019, Chelston celebrated 30 years of partnership with Auto-Trail, and in 2020, it opened its new motorhome hire department.
