Verdict
The Bolero from Swift motorhomes offers terrific value for money and oozes quality throughout.
Pros
Attractive inside and out
Comfortable and functional lounge
Good-sized washroom
Easy-to-assemble bed.
Cons
Raised floor between lounge and kitchen.
Living
The Swift has 64cm of space between the kitchen worktop and the worksurface that’s on your left-hand side as you enter the ‘van.
There’s a step from the kitchen into the lounge over which it is easy to trip. The interior fabrics can’t compensate for this but the combination of light woods and metallic silver locker handles and cupboard trim is fresh and modern.
Yocan seat six in the lounge on the facing sofas, or eight with the cab seats swivelled. There’s no TV but enough space on the kitchen work surface to accommodate one, with aerial and DVD ports.
Usefully, there are wall boards behind the sofa backs – these prevent condensation from dampening the seats and allow warm air to circulate throughout the motorhome.
The raised floor in the Swift caused one six-foot tall tester to clip his head on the roof light when moving through the lounge.
Kitchen
The Swift’s kitchen is a stylish affair, with intelligent storage and concertina cupboard doors. It also has a 107-litre Thetford fridge and enough work surface to satisfy most cooks, including a small elevated shelf. There are two three-point plug sockets above the main work surface area, as well as a 12V socket. An oven, grills, three-burner hob with one electric hotplate, adjustable mixer tap in the sink and bin built into the habitation door are all standard.
Washroom
It’s hard to fault the Swift’s washroom. There’s lots of space around the sink for toiletries as well as towel and toilet roll holders and a toothbrush cup. There’s plenty of room above the sink for washing and the mirrors above it are placed at right angles to one another, which increases the sense of space. The shower is sectioned off by classic, domestic frosted doors and inside the shower is a removable wooden duck board and a draining point. The only disadvantage is that there’s not much room in the shower, as a result of the added space afforded to the toilet area.
Beds
The lounges is also the sleeping space – the facing sofas can be used as two single beds, or assembled to make one double bed.
The double is made up using a slatted base to prevent the build-up of condensation on the underside of the cushions. It’s easy, too: just pull the base forward and the legs drop into position to support the base of the bed.
The double beds stretches across the width of the vehicle to easily accommodate people who are more than six feet tall.
The Auto-Trail also has an overcab bed to accommodate two further people. It features a solid foam mattress, nearside window with a blind and flyscreen, plus curtains to section off the area from the rest of the ‘van. The sleeping arrangements in the low-line version, the Tracker EK, are identical to the Tracker EKS apart from the overcab bed.
Storage
There’s only one exterior locker on the Swift. Inside, overhead storage space for two people on tour is adequate rather than spectacular, with three lockers on either side of the lounge.
Kitchen storage is excellent. Above the oven are two deep shelves and a large cupboard with a crockery storage area, and a tall cupboard next to the fridge. Two of the kitchen cupboards have silver concertina fronts, including a dedicated microwave oven cupboard above the sink. There’s another cupboard with two shelves above the main work surface area.
Elsewhere, there’s a decent wardrobe with deep hanging space.
