Last year Italian brand Roller Team became the latest manufacturer to launch a compact range, the Kronos. The 590, a two-berth with an optional second double bed, is so far the only model in the line-up to make it to the UK.

I took a look at the Roller Team Kronos 590 at Todd’s Motorhomes in Lancashire, a compact ‘van with an end washroom layout.

Cab and lounge in the Roller Team Kronos 590

The 5.99m-long ’van sits on a Ford Transit. Considering its £57,990 OTR price, this budget motorhome manages to provide cab air conditioning, cruise control and a radio with Bluetooth and steering wheel controls, all as standard.

It’s far from being a white box, too – I thought the silver cab and burgundy decals were matched by the striking accents inside.

The Kronos 590 comes with two travel seats in the rear, although I did find them rather basic. You make up the passenger side one by sliding a panel by the door that we initially thought was just an armrest.

Turn these seats back into parallel settees, however, and I found you created a friendly lounge that could probably seat seven, including the cab seats, one of the features our judging panel highlighted when we shortlisted it for the best motorhome for couples at the Practical Motorhome Awards 2025.

There should be space for at least four around the huge pedestal table, which folds in two so those in the cab seats can get in and out.

Even with a drop-down bed, plenty of daylight gets through the sunroof. There are no spotlights, but there is an LED in the centre. Like most of the lights, you switch it on by pressing it.

TV sockets are to the right of the door as you come in, while there is a mains socket under the passenger side settee, near a heating vent from the Truma 6 Combi heating system.

The kitchen in the Roller Team Kronos 590

The side kitchen does feel a little cramped. There is only a little bit of workspace in front of the sink and hob, and the latter has just two gas burners. There is also only a combined oven and grill.

Kitchen might feel a little cramped, but the area is well lit

It is well lit from a large window and a striplight, with one socket nearby and another inside an overhead locker – possibly a spot for a microwave.

On the other side of the aisle, the designers have squeezed in a slimline fridge with removable freezer.

The washroom in the Roller Team Kronos 590

Having stepped down from the cab to the lounge, you have to step back up to the washroom. Like the kitchen, this too is a little cramped, although that’s hardly surprising in a ’van of this length. It still boasts a big shower cubicle (with one drain). There’s also good solid basin and a large lit mirror.

Sleeping in the Kronos 590

The main drop-down bed can be lowered all the way to the level of the settees. But I did think it is rather basic, with no reading lights or cubbyholes.

My test model came with the £320 option of a second bed, made up from the table and the settees. But it was a bit tricky to put together, because you have to rely on Velcro patches.

There is also a noticeable curve to the backrests you use to make up the bed. But when it is down, there is plenty of space for an early riser to sit and enjoy a cuppa – again, impressive in a motorhome under 6m.

Storage in the Kronos 590

Except for a large open shelf above the cab, storage is pretty non-existent in the front half. The underseat areas are taken up with the travel seats, and there are no overhead lockers thanks to the drop-down bed.

But I thought things had greatly improved further back. There is a big hanging wardrobe in the main part of the vehicle, and another in the washroom with shelves that fold out, which will be useful when you’re loading the motorhome.

Best of all, this second wardrobe is accessible from outside, so with the shelves folded, you could stow large furniture or a folding bike there instead, although take care to watch your payload. There’s a light and a mains socket in here. Elsewhere in the washroom are three more cupboards.

Kitchen storage, in addition to the overhead locker with its own socket, includes a base unit with a top drawer with a cutlery tray, and a shallow drawer below that.

There is some space for storing larger pans under this, but they are cupboards, not lockers, with doors that open out quite a long way, so they could get in the way in this compact interior. You might possibly use the nearby wardrobe, too.

Alternatives to consider

The Auto-Trail Excel 620S is an appealing couples’ motorhome which has a spacious lounge and a well-designed kitchen, although it does come to 6.20m in length. Alternatively, it may be £30k more expensive, but the Auto-Sleeper Nuevo EK Plus is a compact option which provides plenty of comfort, a great kitchen and also comes with Truma’s new CombiNeo system.
