Verdict
A few touches give away the fact that this is an entry-level model, and the Renault Master cab isn’t as attractive as the Ducato’s, but the Lunar Cassini EL is a comfortable and spacious motorhome for a couple.
Starting at just £40,994, there’s no arguing with the price, either.
It also benefits from Lunar’s decades-long heritage.

The February 2018 NEC show was the second trip to Birmingham for the Lunar Cassini range, following its launch at the October 2017 event.
The line-up – named after the NASA craft that explored Saturn – features a trio of well-priced coachbuilts, including the two-berth, end-lounge EL.
Built on the Renault Master – a relatively unusual base vehicle in the UK – Cassini is Lunar’s entry-level coachbuilt range.
But the exterior looks smart, with silver, grey and red graphics. Only the solid-black front bumpers betray its budget line-up price tag.

Living
We Brits love a roomy end-lounge layout, and the Lunar Cassini EL offers a huge amount of space where you can relax on comfortable cushions.
The bolsters at the end of each sofa are a nice touch, too, meaning you can really lean back and stretch out.
This is also your dining area, and it’s big enough for six people, although the foldaway table (which otherwise lives in a cupboard) is perhaps only ample for the dishes of four.
If you’re concerned about red-wine drinkers spoiling the cream-coloured ‘Aldira’ upholstery, you can opt for the ‘Carabu’ stain-resistant Aquaclean scheme (£349).
Either way, the rear of this motorhome is definitely an attractive place to spend time, night or day.
Kitchen
In the Lunar Cassini EL’s kitchen, there’s not a huge amount of locker space – it’s partly consumed by the microwave – but there is a cupboard towards the floor.
Work surface is also at a bit of a premium, but the three-burner hob is angled to allow more space.
A Thetford oven/grill and a Dometic fridge sit below.
Washroom
This Lunar Cassini EL is a compact ’van, at just 6.4m (21’) long, so given the dimensions of that rear lounge, it’s a pleasant surprise to find that the washroom is a good size.
There’s no separate shower cubicle here, but there is a swivel-bowl cassette toilet and a smart tap above the triangular basin.
The shower area features an unusual, black-plastic floor with channels below to help water drain, and three plugholes.
You’ll not want to carry too many toiletries: there’s just the one cupboard here, behind a mirror.
There’s another mirror outside the washroom, with an unusually placed mains socket beneath it – there’s nowhere obvious to rest any appliance you plug in here.
Beds
The large (2.11 x 1.82m/6’11” x 6’0”) double bed is easily made up by pulling across the slats beneath the cushions and rearranging the latter across the top.
You could use the side sofas as single beds, but they are only 1.82 x 0.73m/6’0” x 2’5”.
Storage
There is storage space under the sofas, in the rear lounge’s overhead lockers, and in drawers and the half-height wardrobe behind the driver’s seat.
You also have the aforementioned storage area in the kitchen, plus the single cupboard in the washroom.
In standard form the Lunar Cassini EL has a payload of 620kg, which should be ample for two people on tour.
