Verdict
Thoughtfully designed and well put-together, the 690 offers a champagne lifestyle for lemonade money.
Pros
A budget-priced A-class that doesn’t feel like one; uninterrupted forward vision for driver.
Cons
Rickety table when extended.
Living
The Itineo provides great flexibility in its seating arrangement by offering a convertible ‘L’-shaped settee on the near side, while the swivelling cab seats are the most comfortable of all.
The extending table is fine but the leg does not extend with it, which causes some annoying instability.
Kitchen
The kitchen is in an amidships location and is split either side of the aisle. An ‘L’-shaped unit contains the hob and sink on the offside, with the fridge opposite.
There is plenty of worktop space, making this kitchen seem more practical and easier to use than those of many other ’vans. Our test model had yet to have its oven/grill fitted by the importer, but that would normally be located above the freezer. The corner positioning of the hob is inspired because it leaves a valuable area of worktop uncluttered.
Washroom
The washroom’s layout has the basin and swivel-bowl toilet side by side at the front, with a separate walk-in shower compartment at the far rear. Sadly, there is neither a hook nor a towel rail to be seen anywhere – surely an economy too far? From a design point of view, however, Itineo deserves credit for making the best possible use of the available space.
Beds
The fixed rear-corner bed is a decent-sized double, but it does not have individually switched reading lamps: its lights are either both on or both off, and a potential source of disagreement!
The drop-down overcab double bed has privacy curtains and a safety net, although as it is transverse, the occupant lying closest to the front of the ’van may feel a little boxed in.
Storage
In the living area, the 690 provides a fair amount of storage space under the inward-facing settee, though it cold do with either slide-out baskets or access flaps. There is a magazine/book net in the rear bedroom, and the vast space under that corner bed is entirely free for storage, with no corners being pinched by the combi-boiler as on some similarly-arranged motorhomes.
Outside there are access doors for the gas lockers, which will accommodate two 13kg cylinders.
