Verdict
A comfortable two-berth ’van with plenty of space. Great value for money, and much better looking the previous generation Autoquest.
Pros
Spacious living area; good-sized kitchen; much improved exterior styling
Cons
Washroom design isn’t ideal; accessing interior storage space is tricky
The Autoquest 155 is the latest addition to the award-winning range which was relaunched in October ‘08. The looks are much improved.
The lack of a window on the habitation door means only one real break-up of the white GRP body on the passenger side, although three large windows make up for it.
The garage door is horizontal, but easily large enough to get essential equipment through. The water filler houses a Whale Autofill. This means you can either fill from an aquaroll, or if you are on a serviced pitch, leave your hose in with the tap on.
Upon boarding the ’van, you are drawn to the sense of space within the living area. The lounge is compact but the facing sofas maximise its sociable feel. With a flat floor running throughout the ’van, however, all seating is level with no trip hazard.
The kitchen has a very decent-sized workspace. This is made even bigger when you fold down the additional worktop, which doubles as a serving hatch for those in bed. The three-burner gas hob with electric ignition sits atop the gas oven and grill, while the 92-litre Dometic three-way fridge offers enough room for food storage for two.
The Autoquest 155 features a rear corner French bed, located over the main garage, and the area is lit well with three spotlights, a large light and a rooflight above the bed.
The washroom is located in the rear corner of the Elddis, and is divided into two sections: the shower and Thetford C200 toilet (inside), and the sink (outside). While the room itself is a good size for showering, the toilet will need to be swivelled through 90 degrees to be used, which means that your feet will be in the shower tray.
Storage space within the ’van is excellent. The Elddis has ten overhead lockers, as well as a three-quarter length wardrobe and underseat storage beneath one sofa.
This is not accessible from the outside, though; only a narrow door beneath the sofa, and lifting up the cushions, allows access. This does become tricky, for although there is a ratchet system to keep the seat base up, you will need to remove the rear bolster cushion for full access. The garage under the bed is clearly the prime storage space for larger items.
