The 2018 Auto-Trail Imala 732 is a luxurious vehicle for a couple who take children or grandchildren away with them on tour, at a price that’s now more affordable than ever.

This season’s theme from Auto-Trail is ‘make things a bit more affordable’, and its entry-level Imala range now includes the new 732.
This family ’van has a rear transverse bed – a layout previously only available as a Tracker.

Storage space is excellent
Living
The Auto-Trail Imala 732’s huge front lounge has two facing settees, and the only two travel seats on the standard model are in the cab.
Cost options, including a dinette with at least two forward-facing travel seats, start at £825 – well worth it to let you take children or grandchildren on holiday with you.
The quasi-overcab profile gives you lots of headroom, but it’s not the brightest area because there’s only a medium rooflight, and the lockers over the cab limit the size of the sunroof.
But what you lose in light, you gain in storage – you also get three spotlights and two heating vents in the lounge, too.
If you go for either the £1149 Media Pack (which adds a 18.5in TV, a DAB/FM/AM radio with USB and Bluetooth, sat-nav and a colour reversing camera), or the £1999 Media Pack Plus that also gives you a satellite system, the TV fits over the middle of the cab.
There’s no mains socket in the Auto-Trail’s lounge, but there is a socket tower in the kitchen, where you’ll find a trio of outlets to plug your gadgets into.
Kitchen
In the kitchen, the sink is of such generous dimensions that there’s only an average-sized amount of workspace between it and the four-burner dual-fuel hob.
Food storage space in the 732 consists of one tall cupboard between the oven and grill and the 90-litre fridge, a cutlery drawer and one overhead locker – it should prove sufficient for the food of a family of four, though.
A microwave is fitted – handy if you don’t fancy cooking with the oven or grill. There’s also a pan locker under the oven.
There is good light on the worktop through the large window and, at night, a striplight helps you out, too.
Washroom
The Auto-Trail Imala 732’s central washroom isn’t huge, but there’s everything that you could need in here – and it’s good to see a separate shower cubicle.
It’s a bright enough space thanks to the rooflight in the main part of the washroom, and the large, opaque window.
The basin is of a reasonable size, and there’s a swivel cassette toilet, while storage is taken care of by an overhead locker.
Other equipment includes a toilet-roll holder, a towel rail and a handy pair of door-hooks.
Beds
The first thing you notice in the rear bedroom in the 2018 Auto-Trail Imala 732 is the unusual position of the plastic concertina partition, which gives you privacy and access to the wardrobe, but not the washroom.
That aside, this is an excellent bedroom. There’s plenty of room to move around the bed, and lots of light comes through two windows and the single rooflight.
There’s a dresser in the far corner, although the only socket is high up in the other corner, ready for a TV.
The front bed makes up easily via slatted platforms. The offside settee is longer than the nearside, so you get a useful perching area if you wake early and want to sit down with a cuppa.
That rear double bed is 1.86 x 1.34m (6’1” x 4’4”), while the L-shaped front double measures 2.17 x 1.22m (7’1” x 4’0”).
Storage
Overall storage space is excellent in this 2018-season Auto-Trail motorhome – and that’s not just because we looked at a lo-line with extra lockers above the cab.
Even if you don’t go for this option, you get four overhead lockers up front, while the underseat areas are clear and have gas struts to keep the slats upright when needed.
The not-quite full-height wardrobe is above a shallow shelved cupboard, with two small drawers next door.
You also get two overhead lockers, the bedside table and the dresser.
Finally, a large storage area under the bed can be accessed externally and internally.
Overall, there’s plenty of space for storing all of the kit that’s needed by a family on tour – and a 350kg payload.
