Verdict
The lounge in the Symbol Plus as a long-term favourite, and the kitchen and washroom layout from the outgoing Stanway is attractive. Then you get all of those Auto-Sleeper comforts and overall spec, too. The Symbol Plus is a tempting little motorhome that should do well on the forecourts.

When you have a model as perennially popular as the Symbol, what can you do to improve it and boost its appeal to existing owners? Well, here it is.Auto-Sleepers admits that it has customer demand to thank for this combination of all that’s best about the Symbol – the front lounge – and the Stanway’s L-shaped rear kitchen and washroom.

Living
The Symbol seating plan will be familiar to many. Pull back the sliding door, glide out the electric step, and you find a sofa along the offside looking out on the rest of the world, and a single travel seat just inside the door.
You only need to open the rear doors to access the toilet cassette, gas isolator valves and Truma 6 Combi boiler.
Kitchen
To the back, then, and it’s the kitchen that catches the eye. The grey-and-white colour scheme looks fresh and modern, and its L-shape provides a fair amount of worktop.; what’s more, you can also pull out a section above the fridge.
The cooking facilities are good, and feature three gas rings, along with a combined oven and grill. It’s great to see the inclusion of the Stanway’s coffee maker here, too.
Cooking facilities are supplemented by a Russell Hobbs microwave – there’s little more that a chef could need in here – and there’s an Omnivent overhead. The latter is a good addition because, unless you plan to cook with the offside rear door open, there’s no direct ventilation here.
Washroom
A tambour door by the kitchen opens into the decent-sized washroom. Here, there’s a generous amount of room for showering and ablutions.
The fixed handbasin is rather on the small side, but there’s plenty of kit elsewhere; including a vanity unit with sliding doors, toilet roll holder, a towel rail, an extractor fan unit and so on.
You can create a changing area at the back, too, by opening the door to the main locker/vanity area (there’s an excellent illuminated mirror here) and folding out a lower panel.
Beds
At night, it’s a choice of single beds (the nearside example is shorter than the offside) or a good-sized double. The formed ‘mattress’ is on the firm side; a topper would make it even more comfortable.
Storage
There are four overhead lockers; one is home to that Auto-Sleeper essential, a nice set of glasses and clips for a pair of bottles. At a lower level, the storage is compromised by the Truma Combi boiler located on the floor directly below.
