Volkswagen has added the California Surf trim level to the T6.1 line-up, where it joins the Beach Tour, the Beach Camper and the Ocean.

The campervan comes with heated front seats, a gas hob and two burners, as well as a stainless steel sink which includes a removable washing-up bowl.

It will be well-suited to families of four, coming with a loft bed, as well as a rear bench that can be converted into a bed for two.

It is powered by a 2.0 TDI 150PS seven-speed engine with direct-shift gearbox (DSG) and is fitted with 16-inch Clayton alloy wheels.

The Surf also comes kitted out with an eight-inch ‘Ready to Discover’ infotainment system. Driver and safety assistance systems will make the journeys to your campervan campsite a simple business, as Cruise Control with speed limiter is included as standard – Adaptive Cruise Control is an optional extra.

Front and rear parking sensors will also allow drivers to benefit from warnings of any nearby objects, even if a trailer is being towed.

Prices will start from £68,234. VW has also announced it will be unveiling a plug-in hybrid concept of the California at this year’s Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf.
