IT’S THAT TIME of year again – time for the Practical Motorhome Reader Rally!

We’re packing our ‘vans and heading to Combe Martin in Devon for our annual May bank holiday get-together, with our sister magazine Practical Caravan. Stowford Farm Meadows is our destination once again and we’re making it our home from 2 to 5 May – and we have a packed programme of events to keep you entertained.

Younger guests can enjoy fun and games on the rally field

Five-a-side football will help tire the kids out on Saturday morning. And if they don’t fancy that, point them in the direction of the marquee where they can get their faces painted.

Also on Saturday is one of many people’s highlights of the rally, the dog show. Always a lot of fun and with many prizes to be won by dogs of all breeds and ages – and their owners! – it’s not hard to understand why this is a popular part of the Reader Rally.

But that’s not all. On Saturday we also have bingo in the marquee as well as ferret racing in the rally field. After that, you’ll definitely be ready for some food, so it’s back to the marquee for a tasty BBQ, followed by ice cream. Then it is time to dance the night away! Don Stetsons and chequered shirts for our annual barn dance, with prizes for the most nifty movers.

New for the 2014 Practical Motorhome Reader Rally is morris dancing, with two sessions on Sunday afternoon in the marquee. We’ve also got more face painting on Sunday and the sports day is back, including the Aquaroll race for parents.

More canine capers will follow with Mist the sheepdog’s demonstration at 2pm in the rally field. Then, as holidays in Devon aren’t complete without a cream tea, head to the marquee from 3 on Sunday afternoon for a cream tea and listen to the brass band.

Later in the afternoon we’ll have our prize giving and raffle, with lots of super prizes to be won, after which it is time to put your dancing shoes on again for our Sunday night disco.

Plus, both days we will be holding Q&A sessions with some of our touring experts. So if you have any questions about your motorhome and life on the road, this is your opportunity to get answers.

And, of course, the Practical Motorhome team will be on hand all day to keep you going with free teas and coffees. Just head to the marquee.

Scrumptious cream teas are a key part of the Devon experience

“The Reader Rally is a fantastic opportunity for us to meet the people who make the magazine great – the readers! – and it will be particularly special for me and my family because this year will be our first visit,” said Practical Motorhome’s Alastair Clements. “We’re looking forward to seeing you all there.”

“I pick up dozens of ideas for features we should carry at the Reader Rally,” added Practical Motorhome’s Rob Ganley. “I also get endless inspiration for touring holidays from people who’ve been there and done it – people like us. It will be great fun.”

We’re excited and hope you are too. Keep your fingers crossed for good weather and we will see you there!
