German manufacturer Frankia has been making motorhomes since the 1970s, starting with its first Mercedez-Benz-based vehicle in 1973. Since then it has earned a reputation for quality.
All Frankia models are in the premium sector, offering solidity, reliability and UK-friendly layouts. What’s more, it offers the opportunity to buy any model on a right-hand-drive chassis. Frankia’s sole UK dealer is SMC motorhomes, based in Newark.
Clever beds and more
Frankia’s 2018 offering added a few layouts, and that trend continued at the 2019 launch in Wirsberg. Most of the ranges have received tweaks, and there are a couple of new floorplans that should appeal to UK buyers.
F-Line is the entry-level range, and floor plans are available in A-class and coachbuilt versions. A-class models get a new front design for 2019, and a couple of new models: the i680 SG and the i890 GD. The former features ‘Duo bed’, Frankia’s drop-down front bed design; once dropped, it can extend forwards to allow occupants to sleep lengthways. The latter model measures 8.9m long – a new market segment for Frankia – and has an MTPLM of 5500kg, and a whopping payload of 1500kg.
Exciting lounge layouts
The Titan A-class range remains the same for 2019, while the A-class M-Line is now based on the Mercedes-Benz VS 30 Sprinter. M-Line also receives two new layouts; the island-bed I7400 QD and the twin-single-bed I7400 GD.
Another M-Line update includes the launch of a pair of new low-profiles – the T7400 QD and the T7400 GD – also based on the Mercedes-Benz VS30 Sprinter. Two MTPLMs are available (5- or 5.5-tonne), while the interiors look and feel classy. A high level of specification includes Alde heating, a pair of 80Ah gel batteries and an electric blind on the front windscreen. High-end Platin models remain relatively unchanged.
Many Frankia models feature UK-friendly end lounges for 2019, including the A-class F-Line 680, 740, 790 and 840; the coachbuilt F-Line 680, 740, 790 and 840; and the A-class M-Line 7400. Other tweaks include the introduction of Thermo Guard Plus construction material, new interior lamps and a new spring slat system on all GD-model beds. Prices will be released later in the year.
