WHICH PET DO YOU PREFER, DOGS OR CATS?

We all know motorhome owners like to be different, and to get away from the herd… so do you agree with the results of this new survey?

COUNTRY’S GONE TO THE DOGS

The polls have closed, the votes have been

counted and verified, and we can now reveal that the winners of the

Great British Cats vs. Dogs poll are… the dogs!

Yummypets, ‘the social petwork with a global pedigree’, launched a

nationwide survey last month to settle the age old question: does Britain prefer cats or dogs? 20,000 pet-lovers responded, to settle the debate.

BULLDOG SPIRIT

Judges report: ‘In a closely-fought battle that has pitted husband against wife and

brother against sister, Britain’s pro-pooch lobby have scored a

resounding victory over the country’s feline faction. Nearly 70 years

since the end of WW2, it seems the British Bulldog spirit is alive and

well, with the dogs scoring a truly Churchillian 52 per cent of the public vote.’

Cats won the contest in many cities across Britain

CATS WON THE URBAN VOTE

All is not lost for the cat-lovers however, with their 48 per cent overall share

of the vote far higher in the UK’s cities. In England, London,

Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds are just some of the cities in which

cats are purr-ferred – sorry, preferred – to dogs. To the North and

West, Edinburgh and Cardiff also fell to the cat-lovers.

News of the canine conquest of Britain was greeted with mixed emotion in

Yummypets’ French HQ. Tweeting from his basket in Bordeaux, Yummypets

Co-Founder Leo the cat raged: ‘This is not the end! We will not go down

without a fight! #DogsSchmogs’. It seems Leo has his work cut out for

him, with the Dogs scoring victories in France, Brazil and Canada, too!

Oh dear.

Do campers agree that dogs make better pets than cats? This shot from our reader rally does seem to suggest it…

GLAMOROUS CHAMPIONS

Celebrities

Amy Childs and Gabriella Ellis kicked off the vote with a series of

lively radio debates in June.

THE ONLY WAY IS… DOGS

Amy, formerly of The Only Way is Essex and owner of pampered pug Prince,

went on the attack, laying in to ‘creepy cats’ who just sit and stare.

CHELSEA’S COOL FOR CATS

Gabriella (of Made in Chelsea fame) blasted back that felines’ sultry

independence is something to be admired, unlike ‘high maintenance’ dogs.

Perhaps Amy’s status as

Essex’s sweetheart swung the country round, giving the dogs the final

push they needed to cross the finish line. Better luck next time, Gabs!

WHAT’S YOUR VERDICT?

So, if we’d asked you, what would you have said? Is your faithful friend a dog, or a cat? Have your say – and upload a photo of your camping companion – on our Facebook page!
