Dethleffs has launched an all-new high-end A-Class, dubbed the Globetrotter XXL I, at the recent CMT show in Stuttgart.
The Globetrotter XXL-I A-Classes join the XXL-A overcab coachbuilts, both based on the Iveco Daily base. The XXL-I ’vans come on the Daily 70 base, which has an MTPLM of 7000kg, compared to the 6700kg MTPLM of the Daily 65 bases used for the XXL-As. Overcab and A-Class Globetrotters offer identical layouts, with spacious dinettes, side-facing sofas and L-shaped kitchens. Materials quality and equipment levels are high – the XXL-I range comes armed with the same heated double floors, wood-free sidewalls, Styrofoam insulation and ALDE heating found in XXL-A ’vans.
There are two XXL-I models on offer, each with a counterpart in the XXL-A range – one is the 9000-2, with rear twin single beds, and the other is the 9800-2, with a transverse rear double bed. Both are 8.9m in length, 9cm shorter than Dethleffs’ flagship Premium Liner A-Classes. The washroom arrangements differ in each model; the 9000-2 comes with a long lengthways washroom, while the 9800-2 comes with a transverse washroom located immediately ahead of the rear bed, which can be cordoned off to create a spacious ‘en-suite’ bed area.
The exterior of the new XXL-I is heavily influenced by the acclaimed Premium Liners. In fact, the Globetrotter has the same bold and aggressive front end as the Premium Liners, and has similar suspended electric wing mirrors, although it does without the Liner’s coach-style aluminium side skirts.
Pricing and availability for the UK market have yet to be confirmed. The first 80 Globetrotter XXL-I ’vans will be special edition versions, to commemorate Dethleffs’ 80th anniversary this year.
