DANBURY MOTORCARAVANS HAS been appointed as sole agents for the innovative Doubleback elevating roof camper.

Danbury are undertaking both the conversion and sales of Doubleback campers, working together with the Doubleback’s inventor, Craig McCormack. The campers are now built in Danbury’s factory in Yate, near Bristol.

The Doubleback caused a stir in the UK motorhome market when it debuted last year, thanks to its innovative electrically-powered rear slide-out, which is manufactured from high-strength, lightweight aluminium. When extended, this slide-out effectively doubles the amount of living space available in the 5.29-metre long VW Transporter base. You can see the ’van in action in our video review.

Danbury has also revealed that there’s a new five-seater, long wheelbase Doubleback in the works. One frequent criticism of the original Doubleback is that it offers a maximum of three belted seats, while providing more than enough living and sleeping space for four. The new model will feature five forward-facing travelling seats with three-point seatbelts, which should make it an ideal family vehicle.

Danbury’s co-founder Jason Jones told Practical Motorhome, “Danbury Motorcaravans have seen the potential in a rear slide out product based on the famous VW T5, as many motorhome owners seem to be downsizing from larger coachbuilt models.”

Danbury has a long history in UK camper production, and in recent years it’s been most famous for its Type 2 based conversions, which are built on new base vehicles imported from Brazil, where the Type 2 remains in production until the end of this year.

The new Doublebacks will be built on used as well as new base vehicles, and will be more affordable than before. Brand new examples will start at £47,999. Customers will also be able to bring their own base vehicles to Danbury to undergo the Doubleback conversion. For more information, visit www.doubleback.co.uk or www.danburymotorcaravans.com.
