We’re delighted to welcome a brand-new site to our Nightstops scheme!

Blenkinsopp Castle Inn, just off the A69 near Brampton in Cumbria, is run by Carol and Gary Stirling.

Open all year and carrying a charge of £10 a night, you get more than you might expect when you pitch here.

What are Nightstops?

Practical Motorhome’s Nightstops scheme, run in association with the recently re-branded Motor Caravanners Club (MCC), is here to save you money and help you explore further.

It’s a collection of locations across the UK where motorhomes and camper vans can stay the night for just a modest fee.

Our Nightstops are found at sites including farms, pubs, hotels and local businesses – in some cases you just need to buy a meal, then you can stay for free!

Some are basic sites with few facilities, others offer a bit more.

All about Blenkinsopp Castle

At this new Nightstop, there’s space for up to five medium/large motorhomes or camper vans in a flat, hardstanding, Tarmac/pebble car park that’s just over half an acre in size.

And there’s a grassy area next to this, surrounded by trees and with picnic tables dotted around.

Motorhomes up 7m long can be accommodated, and the access road is 5-6m wide, the gate 12m wide.

In terms of facilities, there’s a fresh-water tap, a grey-water disposal point, rubbish bins, toilets including full disabled access and free Wi-Fi, and it is suitable for stays of up to seven days.

This is also a dog-friendly site and there is an exercise area for your four-legged companions.

Get more

This Nightstop is on the site of the Blenkinsopp Castle Country Inn and Bistro, with a Grade I listed castle.

Enjoy food and drink in the bar and bistro, including local, hand-pumped real ales, and feel the warmth of the roaring fire.

There are also three bed-and-breakfast rooms on site, ideal if you want to holiday with family and friends who don’t own a ’van.

And on Thursdays, there’s often a film showing on the projector screen in the function room – perfect to help you wind down after a day on the road.

With Hadrian’s Wall and the Roman Army Museum both within a mile of this Nightstop, plus the archaeological site of Vindolanda, the Pennine Way National Trail, the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and so much more nearby, you won’t be stuck for things to do here.

“We look forward to welcoming readers of Practical Motorhome and MCC members to Blenkinsopp,” says Carol.

“Visitors have described it as a ‘hidden gem’ and an ‘oasis’,” she adds. “So why not come and try it yourself?”
