Auto-Trail’s new campervan range, called Adventure, consists of two models, both with a rear lounge and based on a Fiat Ducato – extra-long wheelbase (6.36m) for the Adventure 65 and long wheelbase (5.99m) for the Adventure 55. Both retain much of the original roof, with access to the raising-roof through a hatch over the front dinette.
Auto-Trail reckons that the choice of Fiat as the base vehicle should make the Adventure more of a competitor to the Hymercar range, rather than anything VW-based. With prices starting at £56,395 ex-works, they are certainly priced in that direction.
For that, you get a standard 120bhp Euro 6D engine, alloys, a kitchen with a small oven, LED lighting throughout, USB sockets upstairs and downstairs, and a media pack.
The campervans come in Abarth Grey as a standard colour, and Sky Blue as a cost option.
Auto-Trail says it has become aware that in recent years, its Tribute range of coachbuilts – originally launched as a separate entry-level brand – was beginning to look more and more like the Imala line-up.
So to create clear water between the two, the Tribute this season will return to its original base vehicle, the Ford Transit, in this case with a 2.0-litre 130bhp Euro 6D engine as standard.
The range has been slimmed back to just four models, too, with two 5.99m two-berths (the end washroom F60 and the end-kitchen F62) and two 7.34m potential four-berths (the F70, with fixed single beds at the rear, and the F72, which has a rear lounge. The two-berths are £45,495 ex-works, and £46,995 for the larger ‘vans.
All models have a parallel front lounge, but as a cost option, you can have a dinette fitted to give you four travelling seats. The second electric drop-down bed in the four-berths is also a cost option.
Furniture is finished in a light Salinas Oak, while the washrooms get a very modern look with square handbasins and light green panelling.
On the outside, Thule cycle racks come as standard on the back, while cabs come in Blazer Blue as standard, with six other colours included in the Ford Drivers Pack, a cost option. Also optional are 16-inch alloy wheels.
Not to be outdone, there is one new model on the Tribute Compact or van conversion range. The 660 is a 5.99m-long two-berth with a rear lounge, costing £42,115 ex-works.
While the Tribute range has been slimmed down, not all of the deleted layouts have been lost.
Two of the 7.26m-long layouts, the 736 with rear lounge and 736G with transverse bed over a garage, now appear in the Imala line-up.
Imala has also been expanded with two new high bed or HB models, the 730 HB with an island bed and the 734 HB with fixed single beds.
The island bed on the 730 HB rests on one support panel at the bottom end, and as this end can be lifted to access the storage below, you are also left with a large area to get dressed in. Imala prices start at £50,650 ex-works.
There is a new HB layout in the Apache range – the 7.36m-long 632HB with a transverse bed at the rear. Apache, Tracker and all Frontier models (except Comanches) come with Fiat’s 160bhp Euro 6D engine as standard, with the option to upgrade to 180bhp or nine-speed automatic. Comanches come with 180bhp as standard.
New from Roller Team
There are three new models from Roller Team this season, available in the UK through its distributor Auto-Trail.
The most innovative is possibly the low-profile T-Line. The 7.47m-long T-Line 743 has a rear transverse island bed over a large garage, and a central washroom that can be partitioned off.
In the kitchen, you’ll find a chest freezer that you access by removing a hatch in the work surface. The 743 costs £55,540 ex-works.
For sports fans, the 7.45m-long Zefiro Sport features a 1.32m-high garage at the rear, a large overcab bed and an interior finish that clearly emphasises its sporty connections. It costs £49,140 ex-works.
The Toleno S, the latest addition to Roller Team’s van conversion range, is built at Auto-Trail’s Grimsby factory. This two-berth with four travel seats is based on the 6.36m extra-long wheelbase Ducato, with a small front dinette and a rear lounge. It costs £44,040 ex-works.
Our pick: Auto-Trail Tribute F72
The central kitchen in this family motorhome cleverly separates off the rear lounge without boxing it away – so you can still communicate. You can also make it even more flexible if you go for the drop-down bed option, because this comes down without obstructing the door. So if there are just the two of you on tour, for a change, you could leave it down and only use the ample rear lounge.
