Dorset-based motorhome hire outfit Abacus has announced a further expansion to its fleet. Abacus also revealed that its week and weekend hires have enjoyed a 35% increase in demand compared to 2009.

The firm is investing £700,000 in refreshing its fleet for the fourth year running, replaceing ten of its 2008-registered ’vans and increasing the total fleet size from 30 to 36 vehicles. The 17 new ’vans have been ordered from the Swift Group, and are due to be delivered before Easter 2011.

In March of this year, Abacus expanded its capabilities by launching a dedicated motorhome centre to facilitate hire, sales, repairs, servicing and valeting of ’vans. The company, launched in 1985, also sells motorhomes, and offers try-before-you-buy rebates to customers who hire with a view to purchasing.

Managing Director Dave Wolfenden said that the company’s proximity to the south coast ports and the New Forest gives it a competitive edge, and that it is already seeing promising business for 2011 and expects good utilisation of the new fleet.
