The Caravan Club has announced that it’s cancelled its temporary Olympic campsite in Chigwell after 600 protests from local residents.

The site was due to be located on the land of the family of athlete Sally Gunnell, herself a former Olympian. However, locals raised the objections after it was feared that the resultant traffic would cause gridlock and pose a danger to safety.

The Club is in the process of finding alternative arrangements for those motorcaravanners who had already booked a pitch. It has asked that bookings are not cancelled for the time being; however, those who do require a refund should telephone 01342 336 666.
